1st Birthday Gift for Nephew

Ladies, our nephew is turning one next week and we have no idea what to get him.  I think the ILs are getting him a wagon.  Since it's getting nicer and they have a nice big yard and screened in patio, I'd love to get him something for outside.  I was thinking maybe a water table?  Any other suggestions (for indoors or out)?  I dont mind spending the money to get him something nice/cool/fun

We like to give books and clothes until they get older and can realize. However we recently went to a friend of ours son's 1st birthday and someone got him an indoor/outdoor slide and play center. It is plastic for easy clean up but very durable. It also came with a few other things but I just remember the slide. Toys R Us has lots of good ideas for items like this.

For my friends sons first birthday I gave them a water table, he still uses it now at almost 3. I think it's a good idea since it can be used for a few years!

My nephew's first birthday party is next weekend and I have no clue either.

I was going to go in with my sister's sister in law and get a table/chairs but my parents actually got him a picnic table.  

I honestly thought money too, or maybe some giant crayons/art supplies (but I don't really know what is good for a 1 year old).

I like the slide idea.

My nephew got the little tikes first plastic slide for his 1st birthday.  3 months later and he is OBSESSED with it! The outdoor swing looks nice too.

I know that I always refer gifts of clothes, books or puzzles. So for a first birthday, I'd probably do a combination of the above.

What about an inflatable jumpy jumpy thing? Maybe a better word is bouncy house you can get small ones at toys r us and that can be used for a long time

Yeah, I have three young nephews and for their 1st birthdays, I took advantage of the fact that they won't know or care what I gave them. Deposits in their 529s, books, clothes, coats/boots (season-appropriate), coupons for babysitting, things they need (not necessarily want).

Second birthday was much more fun! But I still try to steer clear of toys. Two of my nephews are 7 & 10 and my sister just said they "found a new toy" under their bed. It was from Christmas. From me.
