I had my first here in the south, but it was fall/winter. Any advice for dealing with a newborn and the southern summer heat? My first son is almost 4 so we are out in our shaded yard A LOT. Also advice on swaddling/dressing for bed?
My daughter was born in July in nc. Night time isn't actually that big of a deal because presumably you have the ac on. We did a onesie and a swaddle at night and a onesie during the day, usually. As she got bigger fitted sleepers and no swaddle at night.
Mama to a little girl born July 2011 and a little boy born April 2014!
I'm not in the south, but DS was born in June and the temperature that summer was over 100 degrees most days. DS lives in white cotton short sleeved onesies. Aden + Anais blankets are a must. They are super lightweight. At night, we usually used a long sleeved onesie and an A+A blanket or a newborn sleeper nightgown (the ones with the elastic on the bottom).
No longer in the south but used to be in NC. We just put baby in a onesie - I don't swaddle (we bed share) but the muslin blankets are the way to go if you do. As for outside, again just a onesie. I typically baby wear (mostly in thin woven wraps with a single layer) and use a sunhat and baby legs for sun protection.
