Pregnant after 35

Fetal movement

Hello everyone. This is my first pregnancy at 36. I'm almost 23 weeks and hardly feel any movement. Some days go by and i don't feel anything. My DH tries to feel the baby but nothing. What's going on? Is it because in overweight, lazy baby , or something wrong?

Re: Fetal movement

  • Typo. Is it because I'm overweight , lazy baby or something wrong ? I had a scan at 20 weeks and hear heartbeat with home fetal doppler. Uggggh.

  • I know in the first pregnancy it can take a whole lot longer to feel good, definite movements, which are real faint at first anyway. Being overweight (I'm in that club too) will also muffle kicks and rolls, as will the location of the placenta. But you do feel movement, so that's good and you have the Doppler so that's positive. I could feel my little one a few weeks back but my husband didn't feel anything until I was around 23/24 weeks either. I'm almost 26 weeks now and he is going nuts in there every day and my husband can see my tummy move and feel him kick no problem. Maybe your baby is just chillaxin' in there right now :) Personally, I would love a lazy baby - my DD was super lazy and laid back and was the easiest baby in the world - and still is 21 years later!

I had my first at 36 as well - I didn't really feel him move a whole lot until 26 weeks. Weight can impact it - at the very least it might take longer to see the movements. Sometimes drinking something cold helps to get them going. They have sleep cycles just like a newborn - if LO is awake mostly when you are sleeping (if you are sleeping well), you might not notice it. When you're awake, LO might be doing a lot of sleeping. Get used to it - many times that's how it goes when they arrive only at that point you won't get to sleep ; )

My doc told me that some women don't feel much, if any, movement until 24 or 25 weeks. If you have an anterior placenta, it can also be more difficult to discern movement.

I just started feeling flutters about a week and a half ago (I am 22 weeks), but I know other ladies who are feeling much stronger kicks by now. Each pregnancy is different.

  • If your placenta is anterior, you may never feel super-strong movement, overweight or not. I had my first at 38. Felt good movement later in pregnancy, but DH felt the baby kick maybe twice. Now, at 40, with no anterior placenta, my entire stomach moves. Like, Sigorney Weaver in Alien moves! My 20 mo old daughter will lean on me, baby will kick her, and she will pat my tummy and say "Stop it, baby!"
  • I have an anterior placenta so I did not feel the baby move until around 27 weeks. Only in the past three weeks have his kicks gotten much stronger. Don't worry- everyone is different.
  • I am 29 weeks bit overweight before. I hardly feel movement. Flutters here and there but not much else.

Last US at 27 weeks she said that my little one was moving up a storm. Well good to know since I can't feel. :(

I just got a dopler from a friend but have not used it yet. Need to get gel for it.

I have not been worried since al has been good and I do have the flutters here and there.

  • Oh thanks everyone. I still feel lil flutters sometimes. Heartbeat is still there. I'm just anxious to feel or see a kick or punch. I will be patient
  • The doppler eases me. I've had a lot of issues and scares with this pregnancy. First SCH and then an elevated afp level that had to be followed up on. So I've been freaking out the entire pregnancy. Between bleeding and risk for ntd I'm done.
  • Yah. Felt baby moving a lot today. What's going on? This is a lazy baby. *-:)
  • Come to find out my baby isn't lazy. I have an anterior placenta and fundus. My ob said I may not feel real strong movement until after 30 weeks. Thanks to my doppler I can heart her heartbeat when I get worried.
