Pregnant after IF

Please tell me to stop freaking out...

I know it's normal for baby to have up days and down days, and there's posts about this ALL.THE.TIME., but the past two days baby has not been nearly as active as most other days.  Most days baby is a moving machine all over the place.  On Tuesday, baby was apparently participating in a dance marathon and was literally non-stop all day and night.  Are those trembling sensations hiccups?  I still can't tell the difference among the different movements.  Anyway....yesterday baby was almost completely motionless.  Today baby is giving me a little more, but nothing anywhere close to normal and the movements I do feel are not nearly as strong as they normally are and I definitely can't feel any of it from the outside - usually I can feel most, if not all, movements from the outside.  I've picked up the phone to call my MW several times, but then I'll feel a small movement and change my mind, but then baby goes back to radio silence mode.  What are your thoughts?  Do I call the on-call MW tonight just to ease my mind, wait until tomorrow morning when the office is open, or just chalk it up to freaking out over nothing since I do feel some movement?  I do have a check-up appointment on Saturday morning and I'm planning to ask about it then if I don't even up calling before that.  *sigh*

Re: Please tell me to stop freaking out...

  • Did you try eating or drinking something sugary? Sometimes that energizes the baby. If that doesn't jump start the baby then don't hesitate calling the doc...... It's better to be cautious.

  • Did you do your kick counts? Drink something sugary and lay down? I honestly drink coke cause the caffeine wakes him up every time. If the kick counts are fine then I wouldn't be concerned but a call to your MW wouldn't do any harm to ease your mind. they will ask you if you tried steps a.b.c anyway so I always make sure I do that before I call
  • I had a friend that had the same thing happen to her and the baby and turned around so it was kicking towards her inside instead of towards the outside so baby was moving she just couldn't feel it as much.  I agree with PP don't hesitate to call the doctor!

  • That happened to me, too, and I completely freaked out. It was after a really stressful day at work. I didn't end up calling the doctor, but discussed it with her at my next appointment and she told me to call if I wasn't certain just to be sure.
As PPs have said, drink something cold or with a bit of sugar and lay down to see if that gets baby going. Some days my LO is moving around non stop and other times baby is a bit more restful. My doctor said that it's just like us... busy days and resting days. You might not have as strong of kicks, but there will be movement. Sometimes when I'm super busy, I don't seem to notice the little kicks as much.
In any case, I wouldn't worry.  But def call your MW if you are unsure just so she can put your mind at ease!

    Baby Birthday Ticker Ticker
  • O2girlMJC1116 Oh yeah, I tried EVERYTHING...I even came home from work early so that I could lay down on my left side for a while, and I think I ate everything in our house that contained any kind of sugar lol.  I sat there moving my belly from side to side, drank tons of water, drank some sugary iced tea...the only thing I didn't try was full on caffeinated coffee.

MishaBelle521 No, I haven't been told that I need to do kick counts so it never occurred to me.  And frankly, idk if I even could!  My job keeps me so busy, especially this time of year, there's no way I'd be able to keep track of it all day long. :-/  I did read up about it yesterday during my freak out, but everything I read said different things from 10/hour, 4/hour, 10/day, etc.  I also saw some say to count hiccups and some say don't, well I don't even know when baby is hiccuping vs. kicking/punching - all of the movements still feel the same to me other than the trembling sensation that I mentioned in my OP.

ang2016 I considered that because I did still feel teeny tiny movements way down low, almost like tickles, but nothing in the front, so I thought maybe baby was just turned around.  We went to an elective 3D u/s on Saturday and baby was facing my back, so it'd definitely possible that that's what happened.

FINALLY, baby started to move a lot again late last night when I was laying on the couch on my back, go figure.  There were some super strong movements, but there were also other that I couldn't feel but I could definitely see them, so everything seems to be a-ok, and I've been feeling baby like normal again since I woke up this morning.  I have an appt tomorrow w/my MWs so I'm going to mention it and get their take.  I'm sure baby's movements are going to slow down soon since it's probably getting cramped in there, though I am tall so idk I feel like there's still lots of space that I don't feel baby creep into just yet...I can only imagine how much more I'm going to stress about this!

  • Oh I'm mobile so I can't see how far along you are but if they haven't told you to do kick counts yet then it's to early to monitor baby's movements so it's ok if you don't feel things.
  • MishaBelle521 I'm 28w4d today...I'm not sure when they typically tell you to start counting kicks.  I have my 28w appt tomorrow, so I'll ask.
