The media makes it seem like there's a magic risk switch that goes off at 35. Try to ignore it. Lots and lots of women have perfectly boring pregnancies after 35.
I agree. And whoever came up with the phrase "advanced maternal age" should really be shot. That is like a kick in the teeth.
Likewise, I'm 37 and this is our first. It has been a very calm pregnancy. I will say that talking with the genetic counselor really helped ease my fears. We had a fantastic counselor who really explained everything very well. Stay calm and healthy. Best wishes!
Congrats - I was pg with my first at 35 and had him at 36. I remember the maternal-fetal medicine specialist telling me that they have to pick a number, 35 is just the number issues statistically START to increase. I was worried like you. Then he said "really, it's 38 and over you need to be more concerned." I got pg with this one at 38 and just turned 39 - I have his words floating through my head this time - LOL. I'm sure you'll be fine, don't let yourself get freaked out merely due to age. It ruins the pregnancy most times over nothing.
Try not to worry. I am 40 just turned and 29 weeks pregnant with my rainbow baby. Don't worry about your age. My Dr doesn't even seem concerned about my age.

I'm 35 and FTM. Thus far this pregnancy has been pretty non-eventful. I understand your concern, but I find the whole AMA thing laughable, considering a lot of women I know have had perfectly healthy babies after 35. My mom was 37 when she had me (only child). My grandmothers were both in their 40's when they had their last children. My BFF just had her first last year at 37 as well.
My doctor is not concerned in the least about my age, but like a lot of the PP have stated - they have to pick a number somewhere. Good luck to you and many happy wishes on your pregnancy!
Congrats yay I'm turning 36 in a few mtgs and pregnayn w my first. I'm just past the first trimester and had no issues. So great hear the other women having babies later bc we def want a second.
