When I grow up….

Re: When I grow up….

  • When I was three I swore I was going to stay at home and drink coffee and bake cookies all day.

    Nailed it.

I think DD will be a lawyer (based on her impressive negotiating), a vet for her love of animals. Or a farmer.

  • I never really knew what I wanted to be, except to be a mom/wife. I got married really young to start the family life. I went to college and flew threw it with great grades all the way up to my senior year when I had to make a decision on a major. I completed all of my basics and business basics, but never chose a major because I just didn't know what I wanted to do. So I decided not to waste any more money until I decided (vs changing my major and paying double). Maybe I was just meant to be a mom. :) Or maybe, I will figure it out before the kids go to school and I can finish my degree for when I am ready to go back to work. Right now I'm just happy with being a SAHM.

I have no idea what my kids will want to be one day, but I will be happy as long as they pursue their dreams.

  • When I was little I wanted to be a lawyer, teacher, and social worker

I'm currently a mental health therapist specializing in work with children, so I guess I stayed pretty true to my childhood dreams B-)

I have always wanted to be a teacher. I saw a home video from when I was 4 and I said, "I'm going to be a music teacher!" I was evidently a girl who knew what she wanted lol. I briefly considered teaching German (but teaching grammar and vocabulary is sooooo boring) or dance (no security, low pay, and I'm not that good) but I was pretty much born to do what I do :-)

Now when I'm sick of all the bullshit I fantasize about being a therapist or an ASL translator. Or depending on the day, any job where I could sit in an office or cubicle, work on the computer and not talk to anyone.

I hope my son does something that makes him happy and makes him a little money.

  • I was convinced I would be a princess. At one point I thought dental hygienist or a underwater photographer.

Closest I got is I am diver certified & I take pictures but no way am I a professional.

I am now an activities coordinator with adults with brain injuries. Why.... I ask myself that daily! I have my bachelors in child and adolescent psychology. Really miss working with kids. Violent adults, really not my thing.
  • I wanted to be a marine biologist until I realized how much science and math it takes, and that it isn't just playing with dolphins all day.

For years I wanted to do "idk, something with kids I think"

I'm a barista right now, but going to school for early child development and social work. I want to be a social worker or work in CPS or some women and children's crisis center. One day!

I wanted to be a doctor and was actually pre-med my freshman year in college but then changed my major to journalism/communications.

I think our kids (their generation but not specifically my kids) will want to be software designers or app designers. Something computer related.
this was me exactly- pre-med my freshman year and then communications.

  • I wanted to be everything at one point or another (and sometimes still do; I "decide" to change careers every few months and DH just shakes his head because of course nothing ever comes of it). But teacher was definitely a front runner and that's what I do now! The main thing was probably actress, though, and once DH has a reliable income and I have the option of being a SAHM, I may give the acting thing a real shot. Assuming the Air Force lets us live somewhere that it's an option, like Los Angeles....

Yes! I was definitely born to be a mom and wife. I was way overly committed to relationships at a very young age because I wanted to get married! It did work in my favor though since I am very happily married to my high school sweetheart because I was so stubborn about keeping the relationship going before he was really as serious as I was. He got there :-) And now that we have a LO on the way I am already hurting at the thought of going back to work and can't wait until I can SAH with him and future kiddos. I like my job but sometimes I think I'm just really not cut out for the working world. My mind is ALWAYS at home with my family and sometimes it gets me in trouble (texting DH during the day). Soon....

  • I wanted to be a teacher when I was little. I loved bossing my sister around and making her do worksheets.

I've been teaching third grade now for 12 years. I'm a little less bossy than I was back then :)

  • I've wanted to be a psychologist since I was in middle school. I finished my associates in social and behavioral sciences and moved to the valley with the intention of finishing my degree...but now I have LO on the way and a promotion at work is keeping me busy, so I'm going to have to put it off a few years. I work in retail banking, which is not fulfilling but now that I'm finally in a supervisor position it's definitely a lot better!

  • I always wanted to be a writer, then a counsellor/psychologist, and now I have no idea. I did end up as an English major (with a psychology extended minor) like I always figured I would when I was little. I was always very into writing and reading, so I figured I'd be an English major.

Never really had a career prior to getting pregnant the first time, so I'm waiting to really pursue something until the kids are a bit older. Might be an ESL teacher (huge need here) or something. Would still like to write, but I just need to be inspired/have the time, and I think it'll come eventually...I hope!

  • I wanted to be an equine vet for the longest time, growing up. I started off school pre-vet/pre-med, but switched to Mechanical Engineering after my sophomore year. I didn't like the brunt memorization of the pre-med curriculum. I like learning theories and adjusting them to apply to problems. So, now I design control systems for power plants (mostly steam and gas turbine controls). I also have my MBA. I have no idea what DS will want to be. DH is a corporate IT director for a large hospital chain, so DS has tech stuff in the genes.

I wanted to fo a lot of different things for a long time, almost always something to do wiht animals. I wanted to be a vetrinarian, I loved to go pet the animals at the SPCA, and help grandpa on the farm (until I learned where meat came from...) But  I was 10 and and there was a stray cat outside our house. My mom let me feed it and put ou ta box and towel for it to sleep in. I went to check on her 2 days later and she was dead in the box I had left out, at that point I realized I did not have the constitution to handle it, and not all animals get better....I cried for a week....very traumatic.

But then, I  decided I wanted to be a garbage man. When my mom asked me why, it was because I wanted to be able to ride on the outside of the truck while driving. I have been an adventurous one form the start :-)  As it turns out, I ended up with a B.A.S. in Human services and I work for a not for profit wiht disabled adults. I love it.

I know this sounds cliche, but I hope out little one just does what makes him happy. College, trade school....if he ends up anything like his dad it will involve him ebign outside as much as possible.
