Parenting after a Loss

Nursing and constantly sick

I am sick - again. I seem to catch EVERYTHING and I can't remember a time where I was this sick, this often in one year. My daughter will get a cold and I will be knocked down on my butt for 2-3 days. At least she doesn't seem to be getting it as bad as I am, there is a silver lining there. But I just don't know what to do in order to get back to my healthy self. I used to get sick once, maybe twice, in a year. Now it's at least monthly. Does nursing have anything to do with it? Someone suggested perhaps I am passing all of my antibodies on to her. I am not going to stop nursing, I am just curious. Perhaps it's the fact that I haven't had a decent night's sleep since I was about 7 months pregnant. I need to figure this out because I am so sick of feeling sick. Any thoughts?

  • I know what you mean about those little cheekies!!

It may have something to do with the daycare too. Since I am a teacher I have had a week off here and there since I've gone back to work and, without fail, whenever we go back she brings home something and I get it too. I am told she will have a strong immune system. I hope so!!

  • I don't have any good advice, just that DD and I were pretty much constantly sick from the time she started full-time DC until she hit 13 months.

Since then, though, we've been great! Still nursing, too. :)

  • I don't think nursing has anything to do with it or that you can pass off your antibodies so that there aren't any left for you.  Honestly I think it's just cold and flu season, and when you have a child you are 100% going to get sick more than you used to.  I have never been sick as much as I have since DS was born.  Babies/toddlers/kids get sick all the time, and it's basically impossible for mom to not get sick too.  So since he gets sick anywhere from 6-10 times a year, so do I.  And before he was born I got maybe 1-2 colds per year and that was it.
