The argument that you'll be watching your child so they won't be able to tip anything over is ridiculous. Many of these accidents happen when the child is supposed to be asleep etc. If you have a two year old who obeys everything you say, congratulations, you're the first ever. Let's just be honest, you don't want to bolt things to your walls. Hopefully, it works out for you.
For those of you wondering if dressers and free standing cabinets are "tippable". It doesn't matter how heavy they are. I'd like to suggest you (or DH) open all the drawers and THEN see how easy they are to tip over. The open drawers make them unbalanced. I've had a couple friends with kids pull open drawers and try to climb dressers. Thankfully, the only injuries were broken arms but it could have been much worse.
That being said....we still haven't anchored our furniture but I know it needs done.
Oh and I doubt he could tip his dresser. It's long and short and the top/flat side is against the floor (it's a dresser/changer combo and when we're done with the changer aspect we'll flip it over) and is solid oak. I can't even tip it without a struggle. I'd rather teach my kid not to climb his dresser if it becomes an issue.
Without getting too personal here, you don't know what you are talking about. Seriously. When they open all of the drawers and then proceed to climb them, it happens. It happens all the time. It happens all over the world. I'd rather teach my children things too, but also prevent accidents from happening.
I just have to laugh at all the moms saying their kid "doesn't do that".
Doesn't do that....yet. Kids are unpredictable. No matter how "good" your baby is and how much they "know" that they shouldn't do something, they are babies, and don't have full reasoning skills (until they're 18+) It takes ONE SECOND for an accident to happen.
That said, I'll be babyproofing as my maternity leave project.
