Long overdue re-intro & check in

Hello everyone! It's been a really really long time since I posted, I turned into a bit of a lurker around 7 months PG checking in every now and then but life just go so busy, I checked in a bit when we all started having our LO's but haven't had time to keep up with everything so congratulations to everyone on their LO's :) To sort of Re-introduce myself, I'm from Maine, I now have 2 beautiful little girls, and am gearing up to head back to work in a week and a half at the trucking company I work for.

My beautiful Ruby Lee was born 2/15/14, 3 days late and after 2 failed inductions due to her believed size. Finally the 3rd induction was the charm and she was born only a couple hours after my water broke. Ruby was 8lbs 8oz, and 21" long. Big sister Layla is completely enamored with her and has taken the adjustment very well. She's loving helping out and getting the opportunity to hold "Baby Rudy" I'm thrilled to have two little girls to grow up together :) Ruby is growing like crazy, she's definitely a good eater, gaining about 4 pounds already, she was 11lbs 10 oz at her 1 month check-up on 3/18, I'm sure she's over 12 pounds by now! Anyway I wanted to share some pictures of my beautiful little porkchop and pop in to say hello :) I hope to be able to come around more often once things settle down and I get back into a routine with work. :)

Re: Long overdue re-intro & check in

  • Welcome back! The ladies are adorbale!

I don't mean to sound out of line or like a jerk face... but how does one fail an induction?

No I get asked that a lot, it's a bit of a long story:

The first induction I went in a couple days before my due date, went in overnight and had Cervadil, then started Pitocin that morning, went all day on Pitocin and only dilated a centimeter - putting me to 3cm, I never went into actual labor, so that evening my doctor came in and gave me a few options, and of them I chose to go home and hope that my labor would truly start on it's own, and if not they wanted me to consider a scheduled c-section that friday. I went home and thought about it and asked to push the c-section to the following Monday/Tuesday to allow me the weekend to try to go into labor on my own, seeing as I wasn't very much overdue, their reasoning for inducing me was because she was measuring very large all along, at my last ultrasound she was estimated to be over 9lbs (Which obviously wasn't the case but they had now way of knowing whether she'd be bigger or smaller than the estimate) I came in that friday for an office visit and part of it was another ultrasound to check amniotic fluid levels, which proved to be very low - too low for the doctor to allow me to safely wait out the weekend, soooo back to L&D I went, where they put me on pitocin starting at about 1pm, I remained on it until 8pm and although I was contracting I still didn't go into labor, and I still didn't dilate any further. At this point I hadn't eaten since breakfast - they wouldn't allow me to eat while on Pitocin in case I had to have an emergency c-section, and I was cranky and frustrated because I still wasn't going into labor, they allowed me to stop the pitocin, eat, and sleep for awhile, we started the pit again first thing the next morning until I got to 4cm (about 3 hrs) and she broke my water, as soon as that happened everything happened hard and fast, about 2.5 hours later my little one was born.

So as frustrating as starting and stopping the pit was, once I finally got to 4cm and she broke my water everything happened really really fast. Unfortunately I couldn't do a whole lot to help labor progress, I had to be on the fetal HR monitor continuously, and every time I'd try to walk the halls or use the ball or anything to help move her down I'd have to keep stopping or adjusting the monitor so they could get a reading, it was very frustrating and counterproductive. In the end though she's here and I wouldn't change a thing since the active labor part was so incredibly fast.

  • Wow.. That sounds completely shitty and totally frustrating. The brightside: You have a beautiful daughter. And also, I am really glad that you were given the experience of VD and didn't have to under go a c-section after all that.

I do feel your pain with some of this though - I too suffered from Failure to Progress, although I was never given the option to go home and labor (they want to deliver the baby due to a possibility of pre-e) and when they broke my water and started the pit everything seems to go in the opposite direction (labor started to halt, baby seemed to have gone reverse station!).So C-sec for me it was!
