I probably have a higher chance of giving birth to a puppy than multiples (not that I suspect multiples in the least bit for this pregnancy), but I'm still curious...
When did the doc confirm a multiple pregnancy?
What were your changes of having multiples?
If you had a singleton pregnancy and a multiple pregnancy, were they hugely different?
(I promise I won't post here again unless I turn out to be a multi-momma too)
Re: Pure Curiosity
When did the doc confirm a multiple pregnancy? 8 weeks.
What were your changes of having multiples? 3%
If you had a singleton pregnancy and a multiple pregnancy, were they hugely different? I haven't, but based off of all of the other MoMs on this board, their pregnancies seem to have been vastly different than their singleton pregnancies.

When did the doc confirm a multiple pregnancy? 7 week ultrasound at my RE's office
What were your chances of having multiples? Because I did fertility treatment and had multiple follicles when I did my IUI (with 60M sperm) I suspect higher than if it was spontaneous w/o intervention, which is 3%, but probably not much higher since I still only had a 20% chance of getting pregnant with IUI anyways (and had done other IUIs with multiple follicles and not gotten pregnant at all).
If you had a singleton pregnancy and a multiple pregnancy, were they hugely different? Not in the beginning, but when DD was born at 40 weeks 3 days I was only measuring 38 weeks. I'm 34 weeks measuring 41 weeks - and I feel it. I'm bigger, more uncomfortable, more tired, but I also am chasing a toddler a lot of the day.
#1 BFP 1/10/11; missed m/c discovered 7w5d
IF Dx: Endo, hetero MTHFR mutation, poor morphology
#1 IUI: 1/18/12 = BFN
#1 IVF/ICSI 4/2/12 = 2 x 7-cell and 1 x 5-cell transferred (3dt) = BFP!!
H was born at 41w2d on 12/29/12 - be still my heart!
#2 IVF/ICSI 1/19/14 = 2 x 8 cells transferred (3dt) = BFP!! EDD 10/09/14
M&W born at 37 weeks on 9/18/14 - I am the momma of 3 boys!!!
When did the doc confirm a multiple pregnancy? Because of my history and being unsure of my dates I asked for an early u/s, so we knew this time at 7 weeks. With my first set didn't know until 15 weeks.
What were your chances of having multiples? Not sure, but my mother is a fraternal twin and I'd already had twins, so I think pretty freaking high. (FWIW both sets of twins and DD were conceived naturally, but I just release two eggs once in awhile I guess!)
If you had a singleton pregnancy and a multiple pregnancy, were they hugely different? Hugely different. I started showing around 8-10 weeks this time, I'm always exhausted, lots of pressure "down there," and just overall super uncomfortable in comparison. I also have way more ultrasounds and see my OB more often.

When did the doc confirm a multiple pregnancy? At our 6w ultrasound. We were SHOCKED. Our beta numbers were low-ish, and they hadn't followed a super quick doubling progression at the beginning. We thought we were on track for a singleton.
What were your chances of having multiples? I'm not sure. We did IVF and put back two Day-3 embryos so they were better than the average, but given our egg quality and numbers we certainly didn't feel that good about our chances of having ANY babies.
If you had a singleton pregnancy and a multiple pregnancy, were they hugely different? This is our first pregnancy so we don't know. I sense I am more tired than the average singleton pregnancy though, and I definitely am rounding out a bit faster already.

We lost our beautiful Twin baby girls on June 18, 2014. Tavin Sara and Casey Elizabeth were born at 21 weeks gestation and were absolutely beautiful, precious, amazing babies. We miss our daughters every day and love them with all our hearts.
At 6w3d. We were beyond shocked. I had a MMC 4 months prior so I was just praying for a healthy baby. Didn't even think of twins.
What were your changes of having multiples?
3% is what I've read, we weren't IVF or anything.
If you had a singleton pregnancy and a multiple pregnancy, were they hugely different?
So far, the nausea level has been the same, hunger is greater, food aversions the same, fatigue is greater. I've already got a noticeable bump at 11w6d.
BFP#1: 11/20/11, EDD 7/25/12, Emily Iris arrived 7/29/12 at 7 lb., 3.5 oz.
BFP#2: 8/25/13, EDD 5/4/14, MMC confirmed on 9/23/13, D&C on 9/26/13
BFP#3: 2/3/14, EDD 10/15/14, fraternal TWINS confirmed 2/21/14, two BOYS confirmed on 4/15/14!
While I do have some twins in my family, none are in the female line, so my chances were whatever the chances of a spontaneous twin pregnancy are.
I am only 11 weeks in, but so far this pregnancy has been about 100 times harder than with DS. I have had extreme fatigue and morning sickness and a lot of abdominal pain. Hoping it is turning around now.
What were your changes of having multiples? Probably higher than normal for fraternal since we did IVF and transferred 2 embryos but apparently we had to be different and are instead having identicals so I guess 3% like everyone else
If you had a singleton pregnancy and a multiple pregnancy, were they hugely different? Never had a pregnancy stick before so everything is new but comparing with family maybe the nausea is worse and maybe the bloat/bump has started a little early. So far everything else seems to be fairly normal except for the extra OB and MFM visits.
edited because my iPad hates spacing
7/30/12 - B/G twins born at 33w4d due to PPROM
7-ish weeks at RE.
What were your chances of having multiples?
I believe it was 20-25% with the IVF. We transferred 2 embryos and both stuck.
If you had a singleton pregnancy and a multiple pregnancy, were they hugely different?
This one has been very different. Much sicker in the beginning, then I felt great with an insatiable appetite and cravings, and now I'm hitting the strong discomfort and lack of mobility stage much earlier. With my singleton everything was much more even throughout and I was fairly active up until my due date. Now I'm 29 weeks and struggling to do much of anything.
Baby Boy #1 born 1/15/2010
Babies #2 & #3 arriving Spring 2014 (EDD June 18)

2. No twin history and no treatments, so 1/93 for fraternal and 1/120 for identical (if those are the accurate stats)
Right ovary removed 09.04.2012 via vertical laparotomy
Essure implant placed on remaining tube 06.13.2013; successful followup scan 09.30.2013
My boys are spontaneous fraternal twins with marginal family history (one set of boy twins on my mom's side 4 generations ago).
The pregnancy was very different. Everything was much more intense, that's prob the best way to explain it.
We found out at the 20 week ultrasound.
We have identical girls. I think the odds of conceiving identical twins is about 1% and no family history required.
I have no experience with a singleton birth.
When did the doc confirm a multiple pregnancy? 6 weeks, 2 days
What were your changes of having multiples? 10% (clomid)
If you had a singleton pregnancy and a multiple pregnancy, were they hugely different? Vastly. Very easy singleton pregnancy, no issues, delivered at 38 weeks vaginally. I have had nothing but issues with these boys. I have been down for most of the pregnancy (modified bed rest at 18 weeks, hospital bed rest at 27 and still counting). Twins really take a toll on your body much more than a singleton.
Exactly. I cringed. I love reading thru everyone's stories bc I think they are amazing and fun as a MoM.
Thank you for the answers and I apologize for offending those that I did. I've always had a curious mind and love learning from people. I only know 1 woman who only had a twin pregnancy so she couldn't compare singleton and multiple. All my Googling didn't turn up the answers that were as genuine as they were here.
Thank you again
When did the doc confirm a multiple pregnancy? An ultrasound during the 7th week showed two heartbeats. At that time we didn't know if they were mono-mono or mono-di. We found out around 9 weeks they were mono-di!
What were your chances of having multiples? We did IVF and transferred 2 embryos, the RE gave us a 25% chance of multiples. However only one embryo took and it split, so we are having identical twins. The RE said the chance of this happening was 1-4%.
If you had a singleton pregnancy and a multiple pregnancy, were they hugely different? Hugely different. My singleton was first, and I was very hormonal, crying daily. I also vomited the entire pregnancy, but I was active and working towards the end. I have not vomited or cried as much with this pregnancy, but I am 100% more uncomfortable, and can barely move. I also have had awful heartburn and constipation with this pregnancy. I had to stop working in my 34th week.
Right ovary removed 09.04.2012 via vertical laparotomy
Essure implant placed on remaining tube 06.13.2013; successful followup scan 09.30.2013

Chances were about 1/80. I have spontaneous twins, identical.
No other pregnancies here, but the twin one was difficult despite its brevity.
We found out they were twins nearly 6 weeks, which is really early but we did IVF so it was scheduled early! We had a very good chance of IVF working, and a 30% chance of having twins. This is my first pregnancy so I have nothing to compare it to, though I'm hoping when we eventually have baby #3 it'll be a breeze
When did the doc confirm a multiple pregnancy? 12 weeks, they didn't see twins at my 7 week ultrasound.
What were your changes of having multiples? No clue... whatever the chance is of having identical twins without any medical interventions.
If you had a singleton pregnancy and a multiple pregnancy, were they hugely different? Yes, my singleton pregnancy was much easier and much less dramatic. I can go into details if you'd like but they found out via ultrasound that one of my twins would need a life saving surgery upon delivery, and a lot of things came along with that, which I changed a lot of things I had planned out.
Eva, born on 1/2/11
Celia and Lily, born on 5/17/13

I think that was a perfect explanation.
I was excited to tell people I was having twins at first, now I cringe when people ask about my pregnancy and I know it will just get worse once they're born. I'm so thankful that I was blessed with two babies this pregnancy, nothing will change that. But when I was pregnant with DD I was never asked if I conceived her naturally, what methods I used to increase my chances, does it run in my family, etc and no matter how I answer the person never seems satisfied. I say it was a surprise, I've actually had people tell me I was lying. I say it doesn't run in my family, people don't believe me. For me it just happened, we found out at our first appt. This entire pregnancy I've been worried about these babies. Nobody asks or cares about the babies, just the novelty of having more than one, and honestly that's usually the farthest thing from my mind. These days I'm more focused on taking it easy so I can keep them in as long as possible and that issues that have popped up with their health end up being nothing to worry about.
I honestly don't know why people even ask since they seem to have already made up their minds and know everything about having twins. Not that OP was doing any of that but, as was pointed out, you can only be asked these things so many times before you start feeling like a "freak show."
Apologies if this offended anyone, that was not my intent. I'm just wide awake and uncomfortable and wanted to share another point of view :-/
That's funny considering there were only like 3 people who didn't answer the questions and got suspicious.
Op- you got treated super fairly. Play nice.
OP you are ridiculous. My 4 year old is more mature than that.
To answer your question you literally could have found instantly on google: everyone has a 3% chance unless you are using fertility treatments. And yes my singleton was different but not until I was past 24 weeks.
Hahahaha boo F-ing hoo. Yep, that sums it up for me!
-6w4d I had a m/c just a few months prior so I had a u/s that early to make sure everything looked ok.
What were your changes of having multiples?
-not sure. They were spontaneous fraternal so I guess 3%
If you had a singleton pregnancy and a multiple pregnancy, were they hugely different?
-not really. I was bigger and more aches and pains but that's about it. I got out on modified bedrest with the twin pregnancy because one of them had quit growing. But other than that, both were complication-free.
