what is your childcare situation while cycling?

My RE, like most I would imagine, does bloodwork and ultrasounds from 7-9am. This is so they can get the results and call patients in the afternoon with updates on dosages, when to trigger, betas, etc.

I am having a hard time finding someone to watch DS that early in the morning, and for such a short amount of time (bloodwork is 20 minutes max). I SAH so I can't just drop him off at daycare early. DH can't go into work late.

Just curious what you do with your LO while you are cycling; do you drop off early at daycare, does your spouse go into work late, do you have family nearby?

I'm probably not going to be any help to you. I purposely schedule those appts on work days so I can go right after I drop DD off at daycare then go. So far it's worked out that way for the most part. There was one day that I had to travel to one if their other offices and hour away (in the same city MH works) and luckily I had a friend up there that met me at the office and sat in the car with DD while I ran in real quick. Otherwise H would've left work to meet me and sit in the car with her.

I will not take her to the office with me. One time I was almost stuck and was going to pay a whole day of daycare just to drop her off for an hour. That would've sucked.

Edited because I forgot to say I do have in laws close but my mother in law complains about having to come over that early, so I don't ask.

  • I am of no help either.  Mine is 17, but if I did have one of needing babysitting age,  DH would probably go in late, or I do have family very close.

  • I've had to take him twice, there was no way around it.  one time was for an exam, I sat in a chair in my exam room next to him in his stroller until the last possible moment the doctor needed me up on the table.

The other time I had bloodwork and that's never taken more than 5 minutes, so we walked in, I checked in, the nurse took us back, and then we left.

My RE has a special corner of the waiting room for kids.  I took him over there the time we had to wait and quietly read so he wasn't a disturbance or distraction to others.  I felt awful, but had no choice.

  • I drive to hub's work, pick him up, drive to appt and he plays with her while I get stuffs done. If it is too cold he takes her to main floor and chases her, if it is nice he reads to her in car or watches stupid videos on YouTube. I know most don't have this option, but I am grateful for it! For ER we have a friend who will watch her OR say I have a sub job at work and drop her off at mil's. We aren't telling her bc of her bad attitude and all last pregnancy. Hopefully we don't get busted... ET day we have same scenario as ER. Once in a blue moon if mine is taking too long he will bring her up and watch the fish in the aquarium. I don't mind that. I said on a previous post I didn't mind seeing kids in there- you never know who had primary infertility and that kid is there is bc of these appointments. What does bother me are the couples that come in w 3-4 girls and are only the to gender select a boy. GTFO. I digress. I would hope that ppl would understand like I do on the rare occasion dd had to come with me... I generally think ppl are good and understanding...

  • Oh I hope I didn't start something by saying I will not take her into the office. I do not mind seeing kids there, but I don't feel comfortable bringing mine there because I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings.

No, I didn't think you were, I just was sharing my experience.  I do everything possible to NOT take him, but just haven't had a choice twice in the matter.  It worked out for the best the one time, he got to meet the doctor who I owe everything to.  DS wasn't impressed though (he's 2...).

  • I don't have a problem with kids being in the waiting room; it didn't even cross my mind as a thing to be upset about until I read it on the bump (shows how self-centered I am).

I have sitter lined up for my next two preliminary appointments, but no one for the long haul. Just one more stressor in the IF game.

  • I don't have exactly the same issue- but I am in kind of the same boat.

My kid goes to daycare - so I am able to get him to daycare in time for most appointments.  Daycare opens at 7:30, so if I have an 8'oclock appointment I can drop him off but then I have to haul ass to the doctor and hope  to god I don't get stuck in traffic.

BUT I teach.  So, I have 24 first and second graders at my door whether I am there or not.   Since appointments are short, I can't exactly take a whole day, and I wouldn't want to anyway.  So, getting someone to cover my class so I can come in late is getting harder and harder.  Also I haven't told my principal that we are undergoing all of this.  So, its getting tricky.

I also don't really know what I am going to do this summer if we are still in this boat- since LO stays home with me during the summer.

All this to say, hugs.  It's really frustrating trying to get appointments done and have prior obligations- jobs, other kids, etc,  to tend to as well.   I hope you are able to get something worked out.

  • I have had to take G with me once, but I checked with the office first and they said it was going to be really slow and luckily when I got there no one else was there.  I gave G his Ipad and had my exam pretty quickly and we were out.  I am sure I will never get that lucky again, so I'm working on a new plan.  I would ask my mom, but she has a lot going on right with my uncle and plus also we havent really told her that we are doing this again...

TTC#1 May 2009- July 2010 on our own with no luck

Started with RE in August 2010, dx with unexplained IF and then finally our 3rd IUI cycle using Follistim and Trigger resulted in our wonderful little man.  Born 12/2/11

TTC#2 Never really prevented, but were careful early on as Dr. reccomended

Surprise BFP 12/16/13, started progesterone immediately as first numbers came back low, but betas were good.  Progesterone wasnt enough. Natural MC 12/24/13.

Back with RE as of January 2014...

  • I have been really lucky for the most part my DH has been able to be home with the kids while I go to the RE. He works a rotating shift (one week on days, one week on swing, on week on grave..repeat, repeat, repeat LOL.) If I can't use him I will ask my 18 yr old nephew to babysit at my house, or just go with us and chill in the car with the kids while I am in the 20 min or so appointment. If he is not available I would probably ask a neighbor, I have one SAHM next door to me.
