Pregnant after a Loss

How are you managing your clotting disorder?

Hi Ladies!  I just found out that I have a clotting disorder that may have been the cause of my miscarriages.  I go into talk to my OB about the treatment plan on Monday, but I was hoping to find out how those of you dealing with this issue are being treated before I chat with her.  I would love to hear your personal experiences if you wouldn't mind sharing.  Thank you!

Re: How are you managing your clotting disorder?

  • mkc5869 Thank you for sharing your experience and for providing me with some insight.  I do not know exactly what type of disorder I have at this point - my B2 glycoprotein 1 antibodies were highly elevated - they came back at 71 and they should have been under 20.  I have had 2 miscarriages that occurred around 6.5 weeks, but the baby measured a week smaller than it should have each time.  This is on the road to looking like a diagnosis of APS (antiphospholipid syndrome), assuming a follow-up test 12 weeks from my first test comes back abnormal.  I will know more when I talk to my OB on Monday, but I'm trying to do my homework before then and find out if anyone has gone through anything similar.  I'm due to ovulate in a couple of days as well, so my hubby and I are TTC since my OB gave me the go-ahead and didn't tell us not to try even with the abnormal bloodwork.

  • Thank you for your inspiring stories, ladies!  I'm so glad to hear that the treatments you are on seem to work so well.  I still need to talk to my OB about my specific clotting disorder, but it pains me to think that my previous miscarriages could have been avoided with something as simple as taking a low-dose aspirin.  On the other hand, I am hopeful that we have finally determined the cause and my chances of having a rainbow baby will be increased the next time around.  Following Monday's discussion with my OB, I may take a couple of you up on your offer to chat via PM in more detail.  Thank you so much!

  • PugLife5869 Thank you so much for asking how my appt went.  It was a really good and thorough discussion and she told me to start on baby aspirin right away.  She referred me to speak to a high risk OB next Thursday to discuss whether Lovenox would be appropriate since antiphospholipid syndrome is suspected, but can't be confirmed until a 12 week follow-up blood test.  If I'm pregnant prior to that follow-up, the blood test can't be done, so I may not know for sure for quite some time.

According to my OPK, my peak fertility hit yesterday, so hubby and I have been very actively TTC this cycle.  Hopefully we've found the cause of my last 2 miscarriages and we can treat it appropriately and prevent another one from happening.  I'm very optimistic :-)
