P&N leaking out the sides

I tried the P&N on my girl the other day and her pee went straight out the leg, I think the diaper was still dry. Is this just an operator error? She's around 9 lbs, but her legs aren't particularly chunky yet. Any suggestions?

    If it poured straight out, I'd say the legs don't quite fit yet.  I thought P&N's usually fit earlier... You sure you had it on tight enough?

    I'm thinking I probably didn't. It was the first time I tried them.
