We use prefolds and the Thirsties covers. I have about 7 in each size, but I looked online yesterday and they have the cutest new patterns now! Why did they do this to me? Now I want these too!
I already have 7 covers in each size they offer - which has worked just fine with DD1. But, I want the new cute one! How do I justify buying more? That's the question :-)
The more you have the less frequent washing your current covers get. Therefore they stay in good shape longer & you can sell them for more when you're done with them.
How's that?
Also don't you need an extra cover or two to keep in the diaper bag all the time so you don't ever end up out and about without an extra one?
My method of justification is "well, we're still saving a lot of money over disposables" So until I'm about $2K down on this CD trail (not even CLOSE), it's still cheaper....and that's if we only have 1 kid!
Goodness, I have 30 OS covers. As PPs have said, I justify it by knowing my covers will see less wear and tear if they're part of a huge rotation. And apparently my husband is awful at visual math. He doesn't seem to notice the obscene number of covers, or the fact that we have about 3 times as many Twinkie Tushes as we started with. He just says, "Well, you know everything we need, so..."

Yes, yes I do
edit because I have to use more commas!
Be careful. My H used to be like this, then a few days ago I got the 'Why do we need ANOTHER baby carrier' lecture.
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste,
It all revolves around you.
Ugh. I hate being the more responsible spender in the couple. *I* can't buy another diaper because *I* know how many diapers we need/don't need. DH is an enabler of all spending because he feels like it justifies him spending more.
I'm the responsible one too, but I always blame MH. Like, I feel super guilty buying stuff, but then I'm like oh jeez, if I buy that, MH will flip! And he rarely gets upset when I buy stuff. But I have a guilty conscience so I think he will. Although he legit is annoyed at how many diapers I've been buying. Can I call it nesting?

When I exclusively used prefolds and covers, I had 7 covers and some days I wished I had more than that. I know everyone on here jokes about there being no such thing as too many diapers, but honestly having more than 7 covers is perfectly reasonable and probably a good idea.

Most definitely. I leave some in 2 diaper bags, some at DC, some in her room, and some are always in the wash. I never have to hunt down covers. I do use all covers with inserts/prefolds though, so they're all I have.
Some days I wish I had more - but most days, we are just fine. Now, with 2 under 2, we wash diapers everyday, so it's definitely not a necessity. I can't get away with him thinking I know best about how many diapers we need anymore - my 2nd pregnancy was so rough he became the primary diaper changer of DD1. So... he knows :-) The magic of me getting away with anything regarding cloth diapers has vanished. However, he said I can get them if I want - but that was after the "Do we really need another one?" question. He really wouldn't care if I bought them - but I think to a guy "being cute" isn't a good enough reason :-)

Me too, I do all our finances. I found the waxelene cheap online, so then I had to add more stuff to the cart. I kind of feel guilty. But it's stuff we'll need in the future like sunscreen and bug repellent. And got the good stuff for ds.

What bug repellent did you wind up going with? I'm set for LO's sunscreen, but I'm browsing around trying to find a not terrible bug spray ...

I got the badger stick. That seemed easier than a spray. Who knows. I didn't even check to see if it was that "good" of a product.
Thanks! For some reason I thought it was in this thread and kept rereading everyone's posts wondering where it was hiding! This sleep deprivation from having a newborn is affecting my brain! ;-)
As someone who might have purchased an overly large stash, I say go for it. Cuteness counts. It makes changing squirmy, poopy babes a little nicer. Covers are so versatile, there is no way you wouldn't get your money's worth out of it.
Dh noticed my last TT purchase yesterday. "Cute diapers." Was all he said. I can't tell if he really liked them or if he wanted me to know he noticed them. At this point everything I'm buying needs to be able to retain its resale value and/or be stored for our #2 maybe baby.
How do you guys keep diapers or covers in the diaper bag? I love all of the ones we have and don't want to abandon any in there. Mh even said "let's leave two we don't love in the diaper bag for 'just in case'". I could choose. I love them ALL

I just alternate
That's a good idea. I legitimately get sad if I forget about a diaper in the bag. I have issues. Lol
This is why I am glad I bought size 1 thirsties for my skinny guy. I now had to buy more covers as he is out growing the rise. Buy all the diapers or at least all the ones you can buy without having to eat peanut butter for the rest of the month. More covers is always a good idea, less wash less wear longer life.
