New! Hopefully using donor sperm soon!

Hello! I'm JoAnn. My husband and I have been married almost 2 years and have been TTC since. Recently we found out he has zero sperm. We are seeing a RE and have discussed using donor embryos. When we found out there would be a long wait we decided to use donor sperm instead. I'm 34 so the clock is ticking to the 35 year mark. I just got the STD blood work results back they require you to do. I'm good there. I'm just waiting now for the clinic to call back with the next step. I'm not sure if doctor will want to do IUI or IVF. I have a little PCOS so I believe IVF would work better for me but I don't know. The RE I go to is a popular place and its like pulling teeth to get a call back. I guess its just a little lesson in the patience I will need for all of this. But my gyno recommended them. He said everyone he has sent there is pregnant. Can't ask for better than that I guess!

  • You should try a few cycles of just ordering the sperm and inseminating at home!!
  • The diagnosis was a toughy. Especially for my husband. He's very family oriented and has 5 siblings. I was more "well that's just my luck...ok let's deal with it"

I hadn't considered doing it at home. Especially since ins pays for the doc to do it. If the vials weren't $700 a pop I certainly would though. Id be nice to be in control of the situation for sure.

    Thanks everyone for the welcome!

  • I agree, if your insurance pays, def go for the IUI first! Your husband won't even think about the genetic connection when holding that baby, but, I'm sure it's tough now at first. Good luck and keep us updated!!
  • He is getting better. It was just a matter of it sinking in and accepting it. We just want a child, no matter how. We were going to try a donor embryo because it was less like I was having some other man's baby since it wasn't genetically mine either. I was perfectly ok with that. I can't bear to wait 10 months though. And now that we have gotten to pick the sperm donor, we like that fact that we know lots more about the donor.

I will update next week after my appointment. Its nice to talk to people who get it!
