Currently 34 weeks pregnant. Had a cerclage placed at 13 weeks due to an incompetent cervix. Will have it out at 36 weeks.
anyone else in the same boat?

So had my cerclage taken out today in L&D and sorry ladies but it hurt like a you know what. They had to try 3 different size speclums and then took for ever getting it out. The pressure was worse than the pain but it was only about 15 minutes. Instant relief by the time it was out. I was sore for about an hour and had very little bleeding. I recommend asking your doctor for some pain meds. I know its not like this for everyone so i dont want to scare you. Hopefully yours will be painless and i'm glad i had it done at labor and delivery as opposed to the doctors office. I was much more comfortable and was constantly monitored.

Good Luck :-)

Re: Cerclage out in 2 more weeks!!! Update!!!!!!

  • I'm 32 weeks and my options are to get mine out in office (no pain meds) at 37 weeks, or wait until my scheduled C-section at 39 weeks.  I don't know what to do since I got it placed with a spinal, I am nervous about getting it out in office:(  They also used the thicker tape on mine.  Please follow up and let me know how yours went and congrats for making it this far!!!

  • I had one placed at 14w. Since I'm having to have a csection they're just going to wait and take it out after they take the babies out since I'll already be numb.

  • I'm not quite as far along as you, but my cerclage will come out at 36w too (at the OB, no pain meds if I recall correctly). MFM doesn't want to see me again until its out!

  • Good luck to you all. I will definitely keep you guys updated. My cerclage will be taken out in labor and delivery and then they'll monitor me for a few hours and send me home. This is my 6th pregnancy. I lost 4 babies in the first trimester and one at 5 months. This cerclage has been a lifesaver and I'm so thankful I made it this far. Don't be nervous about having it out. I actually had an emergent cerclage placed in my last pregnancy at 20 weeks. I was already 3 cms dilated and funneling. Unfortunately I caught an infection and went into labor but when they took the stitch out it really didn't hurt. I'd love to hear your stories on why you had cerclage so placed. I'll be saying prayers for all of you and I'll definitely let you know how it went. Xxxxxxxxx
  • Also wanted to add that we also went through ivf which resulted in the 5 miscarriages. I took a month out in august to let my body recuperate after another retrieval and lo and behold we got naturally pregnant for the first time ever!!!

I'm so sorry for your previous losses. How exciting that you guys got pregnant minus the IVF for this pregnancy. I have an almost 3 year old DS, with a very non-dramatic pregnancy for him. This pregnancy they randomly saw on my NT scan that my cervix appeared short. Checked again at 15 weeks and it looked ok. Then at my anatomy scan they noticed it was short, it measured 1.7 cm with funneling. So I got an emergency cerclage with progesterone suppositories and weekly cervix checks until week 28. They let me stop progrsterone suppositories at 28 weeks cause i was in so much pain from them. Tomorrow is my 32 week cervix check and growth ultrasound (for single umbilical artery). I'm going to see if they can do a FFN test as well cause I've noticed more pressure and braxton hicks in the last 12 hours. I'm very happy they caught my cervix early enough to take some action and that I've made it to April..and hopefully May!
  • I took the progesterone shots weekly which were much more tolerable. Have the doctors said why you suddenly have a short cervix, did you have any procedures done. I had 3 D&C's and 2 hysteroscopys so that may and contributed to mine.  Definately get the FFN test done i had one done at 29 weeks, also because of Braxton Hicks.Luckily it came out negative. I have noticed i am having more and more Braxton Hicks contractions.
Good luck with your 32 week check up. Keep us updated :-)
