1st Trimester

numbness in hand/arm

Just found out I'm pregnant (4 weeks) and not really having any symptoms. However, in the middle of the night last night, my left arm started getting prickly and numb, particularly my hand. I thought it was the way I was sleeping, but I've been awake now and my left hand is still a little numb. Anyone else experience this?

Hmmm...I am not aware of this as a symptom in early pregnancy.  Late in pregnancy, when your hands can get swollen, you can develop carpel tunnel and numbness.  I developed numbness and pain when I was nursing from holding the baby.

I would guess that it is unrelated to pregnancy, but I'm not an expert.

  • This has always happened to me on a very minor scale, but ever since about a week after I found out I was pregnant, it's noticably gotten worse. The Bump actually has an article about it. It is a short one, but you may find it helpful.

  • Yes, this has happened to me and I am just barely going to be 7 weeks. It happened on and off throughout my first pregnancy as well.

  • I had this like crazy all throughout my first pregnancy. Luckily it mostly went away after DS got here. Good luck!

  • I was going to say the same thing about carpal tunnel but seems early for that. I know my job during my first pregnancy required me to do alot of little busy work with my hands so I am hoping that now being in a diff kind of work I can avoid it this time! Maybe check with your doc!
