Love Triangles in movies and TV

This is sort of an odd question, but I was thinking about this and thought maybe you ladies would have an idea. 

Why do you think it is that in most TV and movies when there is a love triangle it is usually one woman and two men? 

I tried to think of any that were the other way around and could only come up with Jim/Pam/Karen from The Office and Ross/Rachel/Julie from Friends. And, even those two were reversals of a previous love triangle with two men. So, I'm just wondering why that seems to be the case. Is it somehow more entertaining, social acceptable etc. for two men to be vying for a woman's attention, but not two women? That seems ridiculous.  Or am I just forgetting about a bunch of examples? 

Anyway, random question of my day.

Well, I'll blame my sleepiness, but yeah that makes a lot of sense. I probably should have thought of that  :P

General Hospital just had Dr. Patrick in TWO triangles, complete with TWO I'm I the daddy pregnancies. Guys just aren't as good at carrying on the dramz when they are the one in the corner.

Epinine, Marius, and Cossette from Les Mis. Although I don't think Marius even knows what the hell is going on. He's kind of a drip.

Maybe because there are more women than men in the populations of most first-world countries?

@fredalina That's a good point and probably true. I guess it all comes down to what the audience will relate to the best.

Dawson, Joey, and Jen was what the first season of Dawson's Creek was al about, no?

Another interesting one that comes to mind is from Lost Girl. Dyson (hetero male), Bo (bisexual female at the center), and Lauren (lesbian).

I find it really stressful to watch, probably because I relate to Bo a lot.

Just a few- My Best Friend's Wedding, Something Borrowed, Being Mary Jane, Soul Food, a few episodes of Once Upon a Time, Cinderella, I'm sure there are more, those are just the 1st ones that came to mind.

Is a love triangle two people in love with one person? I always thought it was like Person A likes Person B but Person B likes person C.

I think a "true" love triangle is A -> B -> C, but it can be either.

Thanks IAmTired! It's funny, I know a few friends who totally have an A>B>C dynamic IRL. Two guys (brothers actually) and a girl.

It only really gets interesting when it's A>B>C>A. Except not with siblings because ew. :P
