Trying to Get Pregnant

Tattoos and TTC

What do you think of getting a tattoo while TTC?

I am on cycle 14 of TTC #2. I feel I should just make my appointment for the tattoo I am wanting and if I get a BFP before then, I will cancel it. I don't know how I feel if it ends up being in the 2WW. I guess I am still undecided.

Me: 32 DH: 34 Married 7/08 DD Born 8/09
TTC#2 Since 2/13 (Secondary IF)
2/13 thru 2/14 - Year of charting, OPK and TI
3/14 thru 7/14 - Clomid cycles, DH SA came back good
8/14 - HSG and more blood work
9/14 - Letrozole + trigger + IUI#1 = BFN
10/14 - Letrozole + Bravelle + trigger + IUI#2 = BFP!! EDD 7/27/15

Re: Tattoos and TTC

  • Just schedule it for when you're not in your tww. If you're keeping tracking of your cycles you should be able to schedule it for a different point in your cycle.

Why in the world would it matter?
Supposedly there so many "risks". Just seeing if anyone else had anything to add on the thought.

  • The ink wouldn't be an issue at all and so long as you go to a reputable tattoo artist who properly sterilizes there wouldn't be anything to worry about. As I suggested above, schedule it when you aren't in the tww if you're uncomfortable with the idea.

Thank you for your input. I probably should have stated above this would be my first tattoo. So I am very inexperienced and they tell you not to get a tattoo while pregnant so didn't know if 2ww would be the same. Plus most artists you have to book 4-6 weeks out which can be a pain with cycles are not perfect and can be up to 45 days or longer.

    Thanks again :)

  • I'm pretty positive that I either got pregnant with DD1 right before or right after I was tattooed. Granted, she was a beautiful surprise, but I didn't worry much and she came out relatively normal.

I think the concern with getting a tattoo while pregnant/TTGP is infection and possibility of airborne disease (this one has more to do with whether you're going to a CLEAN, certified, and reputable facility or to a hole in the wall).

This right here^ . Also the stress on the body caused by the process involved with putting it on you. It is unknown if the dye has any harmful effects on the baby at all.

I found out I was almost 7 weeks PG about a week after I had just gotten two tattoos done. One that was actually on my pelvic region!

You're not pregnant in the TWW.
So this.  I would get the tattoo.  I'm not the type to hold off my life and what I enjoy doing or wnat to do/get "just in case".

  • The ink isn't the poison, it's the risk of infection. Basically, if you're getting a large tattoo, I would wait. A tattoo is an open wound until healed, so it's just advised that if you're pregnant, not to get one.

I'd go ahead and get it!
