Poor DD....any suggestions UPDATE

DD hasn't really eaten anything today. She ate breakfast and a snack around 10am. I made lunch and all she would eat was half a banana and barely drank any milk. I just thought maybe she was over tired from not taking her nap.

Well at 4 she threw up all over. We decided to try Gatorade instead of milk and she wouldn't touch it. She threw up again. After I washed her up she fell asleep. She woke up and wanted her Gatorade and now she just threw up all of it.

DH said to try water and if she can't keep it down to call the doctor. Do you ladies have any suggestions or advice? She is absolutely miserable.

Update: Thank you everybody for your advice last night. She is doing better today and hasn't thrown up yet. She has managed to keep down crackers and pedialyte. We just got back from the doc. We chose to wait on shots since she has a fever. Little man got his shots and did very well. We have to go to a cranial specialist to see if he needs a helmet. Now it's time to relax, hopefully.

  • I heard sports drinks aren't recommended for children when they are sick because of the sugar. Try pedialite (sp?) It's a children drink for when they are sick to keep them hydrated. If you do give her water, only sips. Do not make her drink a whole glass. Give her soda crackers to help with vomiting.
It sounds like she has a stomach bug and they can easily make a child dehydrated.

  • I was going to run and get some Pedialyte, but she keeps throwing up and I don't want to bring her to the store. DH is working tonight so it's just me and the littles. Oh no I'm not going to make her drink the whole glass. It's just next to her so when she gets thirsty she can sip on it. I'll offer her a cracker, but she's been avoiding food.

  • @SandFHasse‌ I'm sorry to hear she's feeling under the weather. Is there a drive-thru pharmacy like Walgreens nearby? They can get it for you so you don't have to leave your car. Just a little crackers goes a long way, at least its something in her stomach. My mom would make rice porridge when I had a stomach bug. 1 cup of broth = 1 cup rice and 1 tsp of minced ginger.

  • @RedSaffron - I didn't know the drive thru pharmacy could get stuff other then meds. I might do that. The doc just called back and they want me to give her ice chips.
  • BIL is going to the store to get pedialyte and ice. She just fell asleep again.
  • @SandFHasse‌ I would tell the pharmacist unless they want DD to throw up all over the store, I highly suggest to get me some dang pedialyte. Haha. Good luck and I'm glad BIL is going to the store for you.

  • Try sugar free popcicles and try cutting the Gatorade with water. Have her just take sips.

Good luck and hope she feels better soon!
  • Poor little girl. :(
