Pillows and blankets

Woot another post! It's late so I'll probably check back tomorrow but was wondering when your LOs started using pillows and blankets to sleep like a human. B still uses a sleep sack because she rejects even the cuddliest of blankets draped over her. She also flips from head to foot of the crib and back like a rotisserie chicken. I haven't put a pillow in there because I worry she'll end up under it. Are there small pillows toddlers actually like? I'm in no rush to change our sitch because she sleeps great and still likes the crib. Am I the only one not tucking in a toddler at night?

Re: Pillows and blankets

  • She has a couple stuffed animals and a small blanket. I cover her up after she's asleep but it doesn't stay on the whole night.
So, no we don't tuck her in either.

  • We're still using a sleep sack too. She has a blanket in there that she starts each night with. It lasts maybe an hour. Our friends' kid just got a toddler pillow and blanket a month or so after her 2nd birthday. We'll see if DD is ready by then. We're still in the crib too - no toddler bed!

  • Part of me loves that she's still in this babyish stage but I'm looking forward to a bedtime routine that involves stories and tucking her sweet head in for the night. In my mind there is no getting out of bed or any other late night shenanigans. Fat chance right?

A toddler bed seems a long way off for us though. Maybe that's a good thing. :)

  • DS has a blanket but no pillow in his crib.  A toddler bed isn't even on my radar right now.  DS hasn't attempted to climb out of the crib yet so I'll wait until then to think about moving him.

  • We still use a sleep sack also.  He has 2 blankies in the crib with him and a couple stuffed animals - no pillow yet.  He still flips around his crib like crazy....a regular bed is a long way off for us too!

  • Jeffrey has several baby blankets in his crib. I always fold a couple and put them where he sleeps to use as a pillow. I tried putting a real pillow in there when he was congested but he put it right up against the side and was trying to use it to help him climb out of the crib so I removed it right away!
  • DS sleeps in a sleep sack as well but I do put a blanket in there with him as well. He likes to sleep on top of the blanket but I have found it over his face before which freaks me out.
I don't think I started putting a blanket in his bed until he was about 15 months old.

  • We gave Felicia a pillow about 2 months ago when she was sick, it is a little older so it is not as fluffy and full as a brand new pillow. I think she has only been using a blanket for about a month. When we first tried she kept waking up. We started using it more at naps now I cover her up at night.

  • I still do a sleep sack but since their school does a blanket I've added that too. My son loves a lot of stuff and has a pillow and stuffed animals and books. My daughter has these things but just wants her lovey.
  • We use nothing, not even a sleep sack. I just got a toddler pillow and put it in the crib, then immediately got paranoid and removed it because she always sleeps on her stomach and moves around so much. I only flipped the mattress to the toddler side last Friday. She seems to like sleeping on her back with pillows when she's in bed with me, but for now I think I'll leave her crib pillow less.
  • DD is still rocking the sleep sack every night.  She also has a blanket, a small tag blanket, and a stuffed animal of choice (usually kitty) in the crib.  No pillow yet.
  • We are still using a sleep sac at bedtime.  But no other blankets.  Like others have mentioned, my DD moves around like crazy in her sleep - sometimes her head is at one and and sometimes its at the other end.  I did put a lamaze owl and a little "taggie toy" in there when she was about a year ... but she pays absolutly no attention to them.  They just sit in the corner.

We've got a bedtime routine down flat.  And I'm in no hurry to convert her crib to a toddler bed!

@Becc77 - I had no idea that matresses had a baby versus a toddler side?  Maybe its only some matresses.  Wow, it seems like forever ago that I did my "matress research" for DD!  LOL!

  • B does sleep with a stuffed lovey (sometimes two), an a+a security blanket, and a loose weave crochet blanket in the crib that she balls up and sticks under her belly or head. This is why I thought she might like a pillow.

I must confess that I thought the crochet blanket was the ugliest old lady creation possible but it was the only one I felt comfortable giving to her and now I love it.

  • DD is in the crib, but we use a little toddler duvet and pillow set from ikea. I tuck her in and she usually stays there. Not gonna lie, it's adorable.

I think it's only certain mattresses that have the feature of infant on one side, toddler on the other. The only difference is that the toddler side is slightly softer. It's a Simmons Kids mattress, the only kind I could find that fit snugly in her crib.
  • He uses a blanket or two (fleece), but no pillows. He does have a lovey and a musical giraffe but that's it. He moves around so much I don't think he would know what to do with it.
