Refusing milk all of a sudden at 19 months old

It started at breakfast this morning. She just simply didn't want anything to do with her milk in her straw sipee. I continued to give her breakfast and tried again after she ate and still she refused. She is drinking her water in the straw sipee fine. She usually has about 21 oz of milk a day with no problem. So I offered her milk again at lunch and she still wouldn't take it. We tried putting it in 2 other different sipee and a cup and still she wanted nothing to do with it! Is there a common refusal of milk around 19 months old?! Lol I don't know what else to try. I thought maybe her teeth are bothering her but she is eating fine.

Re: Refusing milk all of a sudden at 19 months old

  • Maybe milk didn't sound good to her?  I wouldn't be concerned about my kid not having milk at breakfast or lunch.  Just keep offering and she'll drink if she wants.

  • DD's ped makes it seem like it's necessary. At her 12 month check up they said at least 16 oz no more than 24oz a day until she is 2. And at her 18 month Check up, the ped asked how she is doing with milk/how much milk she is drinking a day and said 21 oz is great. And the fact that all of a sudden today she wants nothing to do with it cold turkey is odd to me. It's not like she has been leading up to it by drinking less and less. We will see what happens tomorrow! Thanks for easing my worry!

  • DD is almost 18 months & doesn't really care for milk, I offer it to her in the morning & at night before she gets ready for bed. Sometimes she will drink some of it & other days she tajes one sip and is done with it. We have her 18 month checkup on thurs so I will be asking the dr but haven't been really concerned only because she eats a good variety of foods & always has a healthy appetite. I wouldn't worry- it could be a phase, just make sure she is eating well balanced meals.

  • DD is 21 months.  She has never drunk cow's milk.  I have offered it, and she spits it out.  She only drinks water.  She eats a wide variety of foods, and she is perfectly healthy.  Food is much more nutritious than milk.

Pediatricians (and doctors in general) get virtually no education in nutrition during their training.  And what they do get is probably wrong.  Trust me, I'm a doctor. :)

DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
