We are coming up on his shot appt. what should I expect later that day or night? Are they inconsolable or will he just take it like a champ like his circumcision? I know all babies are different but just wondering how it went for your LOs first shots...
Re: 2 month shots...
Eta: spelling
OP, DD cried as soon as it happened, but once it was over and she was in my arms, she stopped. My DD is really chill usually so I noticed she was fussier than normal after her shot. She'll cry instantly if we tried carrying her or putting her down because we touched her legs. Where they gave her shot was swollen for a day so you can put a chill pack wrapped in a towel on it. Just give him Tylenol when you notice any signs of pain.
DD was asleep when they gave her the shots. She woke up when she got them, screamed for 10-20 seconds then went right back to sleep. We had brought the Tylenol with us and the pedi told us how much to give her if she needed it. I asked if we should just give it to her before the shots and he said not to, that we should wait and see if she needed it.
I had to go to work after the appointment, but DH and my mom were with her all day. She barely ate and everytime she woke up, she cried and cried. They did end up giving her one dose of Tylenol. DD also wanted to be held, but we did manage to get her down in her crib for the night. She was MUCH better the next day. She still slept a lot, but she was no longer fussy and didn't need to be held all day.
It took me about 30 mins to calm her down and she slept very lightly (would wake up if I stopped rocking her) in my arms for a couple hours. Was very fussy and sleepy the rest of the day. Developed a fever overnight and I have her Tylenol for it. She slept horribly.
The 2nd day she was just a bit more fussy and clingy than normal, and slept a lot.
Today is the 3rd day and she is actin pretty well back to normal and I am hoping that she sleeps well tonight.
If you are EBF, make sure and pump during his normal eating times, so your milk supply doesn't go down. I think I read that on a different post on here and I found it very helpful.
She screamed and cried while she was getting the shots but calmed down quickly as I nursed her immediately after. Then she slept about 1/2 hour on the way home and then was up for a couple hours; a little fussy, but no more than her normal evening fussy moments. I put her down at 7:00 pm and she slept until 5:00 am. That has been our longest stretch ever; the previous record was 7 1/2. She has also been very sleepy today. All in all, not too bad. I didn't even need to give any medicine.
