TTC after 35

May I join in? (dd and loss mentioned)

Hello TTC after 35!

I'm back on the bump after almost a year on the bench. I'm 38 with a 2 yr old dd, and had a partial molar miscarriage last April.
Just had my first RE appt yesterday, very excited about getting testing done. Very curious about the fsh or "egg reserve" bloodwork. Yikes kind of scary.
We are ttc on our own now, don't hold much stock in this month. Just started charting and using opk's.
Got the, "well you are 38... " from my RE when discussing plans. The tone was a little discouraging. We have to see what all the tests say before making any decisions.
I've been hopping around different boards mostly lurking but I hope I can make some kind of contribution to the board.

Re: May I join in? (dd and loss mentioned)

  • Welcome. I hope your stay is short and you can move on to the pregnant <35 board real soon. "well you are 38..." Ugh. How rude!  If someone said you me now "well you are 41..." I think I'd give them a dope slap.

Welcome! I'm new here too and am in a somewhat similar boat. I had my most recent of two miscarriages in January and had my first RE appointment in February. I haven't done the initial egg reserve tests yet b/c I was nervous and a bit intimidated, so I let a cycle go without following up. I know it's good to have info b/c it will decide how to move forward, so I'm glad you are seeking that info. Good luck, and I hope your stay here is short!

  • @MellisaMiso yes I thought, I am WELL aware tyvm!
@gabbagal‌ it is intimidating and I'm afraid of bad news. I don't want to go through all this ttc stuff if I'm all out though. What did your RE recommend for you?
Thanks for the welcome I hope we all move on soon!

  • Welcome! I had my CD3 blood draw Friday, and I'm crazy nervous about the results, too. FX for both of us!

Btw, I don't know why drs say the things they do. I was pregnant at 38 (turned 39 shortly before DD was born) and the specialist who did my level 2 ultrasound told me in the same breath that she saw women my age all the time, and that it was a good thing I was doing the Maternit21 test because "it's not like you're _just_ 35. You're really old!" Huh.

  • Doctors can be such arseholes sometimes. It like they've never heard of the word sensitive. Anyway, welcome to the board. I'm new here too, and I'm waiting on the results of my egg fertility tests. It is kind of daunting, and I can't believe how nervous I am despite the fact I'm 99% sure of the answer!

  • Welcome!!! Try not to be scared of you b/w.  The information will only help you to decide the best course of action and give you a good baseline of where you are currently at.  Also, don't let the RE deter you with his "well your 38" comments.  It was uncalled for, so just try to ignore it and not let it bug you.  He'd really love me as a patient at 43, ha ha ha.  All the best to you on your journey.

  • Welcome!  No worries, we are all in the same boat here.  I think mostly all doctors say something rude about our age when we are over 35.  Mine said "what do I think of 40 year old eggs compared to 30 year old egg??" and just shrugged his shoulders...oh, well.  I was also nervous about b/w but fortunately had all good results and I will say I have NOT been kind to my body over my 40 years.
Good luck and keep us posted!
