How do you pronounce Eva?

Ee-va or A-va? I know actress Eva longoria is the the first way but Eva mendes is more like Ava. Just curious how you would pronounce.

There's a large Hispanic population around me, so seeing it on paper, I wouldn't be sure. I'd ask. However, my first instinct and preference goes to Ee-va.

Ee-va, I didn't even know that it could be pronounced Ava until coming here, but there is not a large Spanish crowd here.

I've heard it both ways. I like it better with the long A sound, but they are both nice.

I'm just going to leave this here for those that are confused as to why anyone on earth would ever pronounce Eva as Ava. 

Ava is a variant of Eva.

My first guess would be Ee-vah but I would not be surprised to be corrected to Ay-vah. I know of a few francophone Evas who pronounce it Ay-vah.

My daughter is Eva and we say "eee vah" but inevitably people call her Ava (a lot)

On gossip girl there was a character named Eva and they pronounced her name "eh-vuh" like the beginning of Evan. I like it pronounced that way, but personally I'd pronounce it "ee-va".

As a kindergarten teacher, who teaches the "correct" way to pronounce sounds, I would have to say E-va with the long /ee/ sound. The short e sound is more /eh/ so that would be weird. That said, it could TOTALLY be pronounced either way, but from a phonetic direction, I would go with ee.
