Is there any sort of disorders that cause flat affect besides autism? Just a weird thing that went through my head because I notice this in DS's BFF but no chance he's on spectrum. Also interesting my ds befriends the one kid in his preschool classroom that doesn't seem completely NT.
Lot's of things can cause a flat affect. Palsies, nerve damage, PTSD, depression, schizophrenia, recreational drug use, stroke, Parkinson's, ID, petit mal seizures, chromosomal issues, botox injectons, the list is almost endless.
This has fewer causes; usually mood disorders, Parkinson's, schizophrenia are the ones often cited.
Does he use language in unusual ways? Like one word answers, long convoluted answers or short not quite to the point?
He's pretty quiet and unemotional but I would say he seems to speak pretty typically when he does speak. His artic is pretty poor but that's the only speech difference I notice.
Re: Flat affect?
