Cloth Diapering

First 2 days at daycare and...

They love the diapers!!  In fact I think they may love them a little too much.  I come home with about one dirty diaper for every hour he is there.  But I'm not going to complain.  They can change his diaper as much as they want.  All the girls think they are cute and easy (they are all aplix) and a good idea.  They were even asking me if they needed to rinse them for me or take them apart.  They were more than willing to do what I needed done with them. We were talking the money side of it the other day and they were all shocked at how much disposibles cost (and they all have kids too!).

Hunter is doing fine and not fussing.  They love how mellow he is and that he has no problem entertaining himself.  I was worried about pumping enough but that is apparently not a problem yet since I am pumping about 14 oz from 3 sessions while I'm at work and he is only drinking about 7.  We'll give it a few more days and I might reduce the number of times I pump to twice a day.

  • That's great! You can suggest changing every 2 hours unless he poops. Remember, it takes a while to get used to knowing when cloth is wet.

  • Yea, I think what is happening is they are changing him as soon as he wakes and then 5 minutes later he poops. It takes him a minute to coordinate at toot!

  • Yay! Glad everything is going well. FYI DS2 significantly upped what he was drinking at daycare a week or two after we started. So you might want to hold off a bit until you know for sure you'll be getting enough.

Also more just from pumping instead of nursing you supply will likey decrease a bit over time. So if work will let you swing it more stimulation per day up until 6 months PP is good.

  • Glad daycare is going so well so far! You're so lucky you can pump 3 times at work! As a teacher we can pump during our conference time which for me ends at 9:15. No more pumping after that... I'm not in the situation yet but I had supply issues with DS 1 so I'm planning on fighting this policy...

I was a teacher and I pumped usually three times a day. Minimum during my planning and lunch, and at first I would get a colleague to cover for me so I could go pump. There's some reason schools are exempted from the requirements under Aca, I think, but I can't remember what it is.

Unfortunately salaried workers do not currently get the same protection as hourly when it comes to pumping under federal laws. There is a bill at the legislator trying to change this to be more supportive for all working moms.

  • I think that must be what I was thinking of. If you're exempt from overtime then the Aca protections don't apply to you, either. Which is a pretty big loophole.

  • Yea, I guess I'm pretty lucky that my supervisors are so good. I'm salaried but it was never a question if they would work with me. They have an empty office that I can go use. But I am taking my laptop with me if I'm in the middle of something.

That's great that your supervisors are so supportive. My husband's work has a whole beautiful nursing room with rocking chairs that no one uses as none of the ladies currently have babies. I have thought about going to visit just to give the room some love, its a really nice room. When I worked I always worked for non-profits so there were no cushy rooms period.
