Unisom

Okay so for those of you who are taking unisom I have a question. Normally I take it at night right before I go to bed and I really have not been getting sick at all. Well last night I decided I would try and not take it to see how I would do today and if I still needed it. Well I have been sick all afternoon, like gotten sick 4 times.

Okay onto my question, if I took it right now how tired do you think it will make me? Like will I be fine to watch DD all afternoon if I take it?

Re: Unisom

  • I am in no way qualified to give medical advice...so there's that.

But I usually take it about 30 mins before I think I'm going to bed and sometimes I stay up a little later.  It has never made me feel that complete knock-you-down drowsy feeling that say benedryl does.

Also, if it were me I'd be more worried about spending the afternoon hunkered over the toilet than getting drowsy.  But it can affect everyone differently so that's just my personal opinion.  Maybe you should take 1/2 of one and see if that helps?

Sorry you are feeling so sick today :(

  • Yeah I was thinking I would take half and I think I am going to. I have done the same thing taken it and then stayed up later and normally had no problems. It is just really hard to be getting sick and having a one year old coming in the bathroom wanting to be all up in your business.

  • A few weeks ago, I was so sick during the day, I took a Unisom, and it knocked me out for a few hours (mind you DH was home to watch DS).

  • I don't understand how people take it with b6 to control m/s. Doesn't it make you sleepy?

    Yes, its a sleep aid.

  • Don't people take it daytime too?

I took it during the day, but I had planned on taking a nap prior to taking it  I-)

  • I took half of one today and while I was a little sleepy it in no way made me passed out or anything and I stopped spending my whole day in the bathroom.

  • Unisom makes me so jittery but I was wondering how people did that
  • I'll take sleepy over sick any day and then tonight I think I'll take the other half and be back to not feeling sick by tomorrow, hopefully.

It makes you jittery? Does it not make you tired?

  • I'm not sure. I was so jittery I could not sleep. It was awful. It was like restless leg syndrome times 10

I take Zofran and Reglan now though and Benedryl if I want to sleep but haven't this pregnancy.

Are you sure you took Unisom?? lol

  • I just googled it. I guess it occurs in lots of others as well.

I totally wish. I would so take it. I might try again and see if it does but 2x is enough torture to never attempt again
  • How do you react to Benadryl?  It's basically the same type of medication.  I have been taking Unisom every night which has helped with my pregnancy insomnia and might explain why I'm not as sick?  I took it + B6 with DD during the day. I didn't get tired and it also didn't help worth a shit.  Every pregnancy is different, wow.

  • if it's doxylamine, you should be fine if you take 12mg during the day

  • I take 25mg of Unisom + 50 mg b6 anywhere from 2-4x a day, every day. My OB recommended to start taking Unisom on a slow weekend with no plans when I could nap if needed.
It doesn't make me tired at all now.
  • I took unisome for three weeks nightly and it totally made me feel less nauseated. I only took half the pill at bedtime.
  • The drug is the exact same as Benadryl : diphenhydramine. It will not cause you to be sick so I'd say that's just normal preggo nausea. I wouldn't take it until 30 min before bed. I'm no dr but am an RN and give Diphenhydramine all the time. Sometimes it makes people really sleepy immediately and other times not.
  • Some of them the active ingredient is doxylamine succinate and not benedryl
  • Here I am at 3am reading this...afraid it will make me dopey in the morning. But you all convinced me to pop one.
