Hair is a little past shoulders, SUPER thick (although now not as thick as before thanks to PP hair loss - now I have a lot of those little hairs that stick up). I have some layers growing out. Hair is super straight (but doesn't lie flat unless I use a straightener). I have off and on had some side bangs, but I always end up hating them after a few weeks and growing them out. Had blonde highlights a LONG time ago which is why the ends are lighter. The rest is my natural color.
I don't want to go drastic, but I feel like it looks so blah right now. I would like a hairstyle that gives me more body. I've always liked Vanessa Marcil and Eva Longoria's hair. I like my hair if I do big curls but being thick, it's soooo time consuming!
Well, the thing is that it looks like you've got the right cut for that type of style, it's just taking the time to curl it.
I have another suggestion, if you're open. I think a cut kind of like this would work well on you and your hair type. Collarbone length, razor cut with long layers. Bangs wouldn't be necessary.
I would scrunch it with curl activating cream and blow dry upside down with a diffuser. Deva curl has a good curl cream. I know your hair is straight, but with product and diffusing you might be able to coax a little wave out. If nothing else, you'd have some extra body. Then get a lightish hold hairspray and spray the hair upward from the ends and scrunch. You can even spray it some while it's still a little damp before you're done drying. Finish off with (loosely) curling pieces here and there with the flatiron. Should give a nice beachy wave, which would look nice with subtle highlights!

Only straight.
