1st Trimester

What is the latest you would let SO travel in your 3rd tri?

DH does music part time (he has a full time day job). He typically goes on tour for two to three weeks once or twice a year. He has tour date scheduled a week before my due date. Obviously, those will havd to be cancelled/rescheduled, but I am trying to figure out what is the latest I am comfortable with him being gone.

this is my 2nd. with DS, I went into labor 2 days before my due date. Another factor is that I will be taking care of DS by myself when Im 30+ weeks pregnant.

Well, my DH is an adult so I don't "let" him do anything.

Both of my babies were late, so that might color this a bit, but I'd be comfortable with my SO traveling up to my due date or past as long as I wasn't having contractions or anything. I don't exactly deliver quickly, so even if he was 5 hours away, he could get home in plenty of time. If he was going to be really far, I'd ask him to stop traveling around 37-38 weeks, just to be safe. You have to figure out what you're both comfortable with (and how ok he would be with missing the birth if he's too far away...)

Taking care of a toddler at 30+ weeks is not a consideration. NBD. Also, it's about to get harder when that pregnancy becomes a toddler and a newborn.

  • I would also say 38 weeks. With my second I had to go clear across the country for business when I was about 30 weeks. All was fine. :)

If he's road tripping somewhere within 8 or so hours, I wouldn't have any issue with it up to 38ish weeks.  After 38 weeks, I'd probably be upset if he went further than an hour or two away unless it was absolutely necessary.  But he is an adult and this should be a compromise, not one person "allowing" the other to travel only until a certain date.

OK poor choice of words with "allow". My labor with DS was just 8 Hours total, so flying back or driving more than 2 Hours isn't a realistic option. I think I am comfortable with 38 weeks or less.

  • My husband travels every week for work sometimes a few hours away, sometimes a few states away. He will continue to work so we will not know if he will make it to the birth until it's actually happening.

  • I say 36 weeks just because it would make me nervous. They go hunting every year and I will be 39 weeks the day they leave and they come back 39wks 2 days. He is not going. It's 2.5 hours away with no cell service. My daughter was born at 38 weeks 5 days. DH completely agrees. His dad is mopey about it though
