Cloth Diapering

What do y'all think?

Our little one isn't due until September, but I'm a planner and trying to figure out what to do regarding a newborn stash (I've read that a lot of the one-size diapers don't always fit newborns very well).

Originally DH and I figured that we would just use sposies until our LO could fit into the one-size cloth diapers. We just were thinking that everything will be totally new to us since this is our first child and that we would be adjusting to a new routine/schedule - so sposies would be easier on us. However, the more that I think about it I realize how expensive sposies are and that we could probably spend less on cloth diapering during the newborn stage. Financially it seems like pre-folds and covers would be the way to go for us with a newborn.

So, in my online searching I came across this package deal through Nicki's Diapers. It seems like a good deal to me, but I wanted to get the opinion of some experienced cloth diaperers.

This would include free shipping and a free gift of 1 bamboo flat diaper as well.

Do you think this would be a good deal (even as a starter pack)? Did you cloth diaper from the newborn stage - or use sposies at first?

  • I cannot give you my opinion on the one side diapers or in any others brand. But it's one fitted diaper the fit babies from newborn up to six months. They are expensive, but the quality of the material are great. And the best part is the you can be able to use it for six months instead of a newborns stage. The brand is the storchenkinder.

  • If you're looking for inexpensive, I think the advice you'll get here will be to go with just prefolds and covers for the NB stage.  It'll be much cheaper than the package deal to get a couple dozen GMD prefolds with a handful of covers along with some NB fitteds/pockets/AIOs to round out your stash.

  • Yeah. That deal isn't worth it. You get like 3 NB covers, some NB prefolds that aren't that great, a OS cover, a OS pockets, and a fitted. Nope. If you want to do easy and cheap for NB do 3 dozen prefolds (or a combo of prefolds and workhorses) from GMD and 6-8 NB covers. It'll cost you 200-300 bucks and will last you until OS fits. Plus then you can resell them or use them as inserts.

You can also split between flats and prefolds. Flatsbare great when the newborn are getting small but the one size are still too big. They will fit a lot longer, too.

Edited to fix typo. Still getting used to newish phone.

Oh my gosh, total reading fail. I thought you said you were getting used to a Jewish phone.

  • I haven't actually used anything yet, as LO isn't due until May, but I got a mix of the following:

Mostly GMD prefolds & workhorse fitteds
    a few Kissaluv's sz0
    4 blueberry simplex AIO's
    6 Kawaii P&N's

Overall it wasn't that expensive, but I wanted a variety to figure out what we liked and have options...
