Anybody from Cape Cod/Boston Area?

Sorry for being such a PW!

So DH and I, and Hannah are going to Cape Cod May 16-23rd, and then staying near Boston from the 23rd evening till the 25th.

So far we've booked a whale watching tour, we're staying in Hyannis while there. We want to go to Plymouth, the pirate museum and Provincetown. Anything else really cool to do on the cape, that is also toddler friendly?

Our plan for Boston area is to see Salem, this old plantation, Boston harbour- gotta see the "tea party". We're not sports people, more history buffs.

Thanks ladies.

  • Take a tour of the freedom trail. It's a walking tour that will give you some Boston history. It will give you a great overview of some of the more historic points in downtown.
Can't figure out the signature thing, so here's the short, short version.....first daughter born on November 10, 2013. She was conceived through the magic of IVF after 2+ years of TTC.

If you are history buffs, definitely do the freedom trail! Also walk through the Beacon Hill neighborhood, Boston Common, and Public Garden. There is a playground in Boston Common right next to the frog pond that DS loves. All those things are right near the start of the freedom trail. Try to pass through the north end section for either lunch or dinner. We never walk all the way to the Constitution, but if you take a Harbor Cruise then you see the Constitution. A sunset cruise goes by as the ship fires its cannons.

If you come by Harvard's campus, let me know! :)

  • I live north of Boston but we have a summer house on the Cape so I will give you some tips for Cape trips!

Hyannis has become a bit of a tourist trap - but is perfect for long visits because there are so many restaurants and shops!

I highly recommend the beaches on the mid-cape. Mayflower Beach in Dennis is widely considered the BEST beach on the cape- it is on the bay side and is absolutely stunning, it has sand bars for miles, literally you can walk about a mile out and the water will be at your thighs. It's so baby friendly because the water is warm with no waves. Awesome for Hannah! Be aware you'll have to arrive before 9am to get a parking spot or you'll be waiting in line for over an hour just to park.

P-town is a spectacle - in a good way! Be ready for some crazy characters and enjoy the quaint downtown. I'm sure you're aware it's the cape's famous GLBT community.

Chatham and Falmouth are arguably the cutest downtowns. If I were you I would spend an evening in Chatham because is a short drive from Hyannis. Much more upscale than Hyannis but still affordable. Adorable shopping. I suggest maybe splurge on a dinner or at least enjoy a cocktail at Chatham Bars Inn. Breathtaking.

Check out a Cape Cod league baseball game! Hyannis has its own team - the evening games are so fun, they have great snacks available and it's a perfect way to wind down at the end of the day.

Both Plymouth and P-town are a bit of a hike from Hyannis. You can ask any Massachusetts native- cape traffic is a nightmare. Don't mean to scare you off, just want you to be prepared!! Avoid traveling on or off the cape on friday evenings (between 4-8), saturday mornings (9-12) and sunday evenings (4-8) - you risk being in traffic for 4+ hours. There are only 2 bridges off the cape onto mainland, each are only 2 lanes. You can imagine the horror. If you ARE traveling during these times just bring snacks and entertainment for the baby!

Have so much fun! It's such a great vacation spot.

  • Boston girl born & raised!  But The Cape has been our summer vacation destination every year....DH had never been to the Cape before we met... it is now his favorite vacation spot.  I agree with Pennylane....Chatham is the quaintest lil town.  We always splurge and go to the Beach side restaurant at Chatham Bars Inn  for lunch.  Its beautiful.  We could never afford staying in the Inn during the summer, but have gone several times during the winter months.  Love it there....
I don't think you will run into too much traffic since you are heading down there prior to Memorial Day Weekend.  That's when it really starts to get congested.  We love it there in the spring too.

I think the Duck Tours are a must!  Hannah would love it!  Sunset cruise would be great too!

    Enjoy!
