Cloth Diapering

Thoughts on the G-diaper

We are mostly a BG Freetime and Flip family, but a local mom is selling a lot of her G diapers on CL for a really good price. I have heard good things about G diapers for newbrons, LO is 10 months so would need the medium size stuff.  Anyone have any experience with G-Diapers?
Pros? Cons?

Re: Thoughts on the G-diaper

  • How heavy of a wetter is your LO? And how tall %-ile wise is your LO?

If even a moderate wetter, I would pass. And if even average height for age, I would also pass. gDiapers with their regular inserts are not very absorbent. And the gPants have really short rises. And it's not like you can just move up from the medium into the large to solve the problem - they are the same rise.

  • Thanks ladies I guess I will pass. I figured there was a good reason I didn't see them talked about on here more often.  Seeing as you all just saved me some money, I think I am on my way to Nicki's to order a chevron print or 2!
  • We were gifted the newborn set, and I thought they were awful, awful. I hated them.

  • I loved the smaller sizes when M was in the smalls. Compared to other brands though, they're freaking expensive so I never got the bigger sizes

  • We are almost exclusively using gDaiapers. DD is almost 22 months and in the 25th %tile.  We really loved them in the small size with the cloth inserts. Never had any leak issues, so we continued our use.  I like that they are less bulky than other styles.

Only in the past 4 or 5 months, have we seen a lot more leaks.  I am not sure whether it's the diapers themselves, the fact that DD is a pretty heavy wetter, or that MIL keeps drying the plastic liners in the dryer causing the elastic to go bad. Or a combo of all three.

We just bought some new plastic liners so hoping that helps. She's also on the upper end of the M size (currently ~24-25lbs) and I'm really hoping I don't have to upgrade to a L before she's PT'd.

I just tried Grovia AI2 for DD and have really liked them. Only wish they were cheaper ($17 per shell and $9 per insert is steep for me).

  • A friend of mine used them for a little while during the nb stage. They are ok. I have no personal experience with them, but after examining hers I can see why they are the "gateway" cloth diaper.

I think for someone who is questioning if CDing is for them or not, it's a good start without spending a ton up front.

  • I like the inserts, but not the pants. I know there are better inserts out there, but if you don't mind changing pretty often I like that they are trim, cotton with a stay dry top, and are easy and quick for my mom, who babysits, to just put in a cover.
