What do you give LO for lunch?

I try to give DD healthy lunches but sometimes it's hard when she's being difficult and I have to take care of DS...so I give her quick, easy things like those individual packs of Velveta shells and cheese...or PB&J, turkey dogs, etc.  I try to make sure she has a fruit and veggie with everything too.

Curious what you do..do you do the same thing every day or try to vary it up?

Re: What do you give LO for lunch?

  • We do PB&J or PB and Bananas a lot, sometimes grilled cheese, homemade pizza or quesadilla usually with a side of yogurt or fruit.  Sometimes when I really don't have time, we do sliced lunch meat, sliced cheese and crackers (lunchable style) which the kids like.

I vary the fruit or vegetable I give with it but I really don't vary it a whole lot.  I don't vary what I eat a whole lot and I don't see there being a wide variety when it comes to their school lunches, so I think a rotation of 3 or 4 things is ok.

  • Slices of low sodium ham or turkey. Maybe a chicken sausage. Left overs. Easy quesadilla. Cheese stick. Maybe a scrambled egg. Steamed veggies.

My kids go to daycare but on weekends when I need to do a quick lunch before naps, I usually do things like:
premade shredded chicken or rolled up sandwich meat, microwave individual steamed corn or peas, and a banana or apple slices.
Or "pizza" on half an english muffin with slice of tomato, torn up spinach, cheese and put in the oven on broil until the cheese melts (1-2 min).
Quesadilla with whatever I have to throw in with cheese.
Turkey sausage (microwaved), premade veggie muffin, fruit

  • She gets the same thing we get, so leftovers, grilled cheese, PBJ, chicken, fish sticks, etc. I always give a fruit or veggie or sometimes both. She drinks water most of the time because she doesn't really like milk.
Yea leftovers are ideal but sometimes we don't have that and I eat salads so I have to make her something different.

She won't eat your salad? G normally likes my salads.

  • We do leftovers, sandwiches, roll-ups it really depends on the day. There are also days where she gets a cheese stick, a piece of fruit and some microwave steam veggies. It really depends what I want to eat (she gets pissy if I have something different from her).

  • I made a pot of homemade meatballs and then froze them individually, I can pop it into the microwave for about a minute and then cut up some fruit, veggies and a cheese stick. If I make a salad I will just give him the veggies off my salad.

Pretty much what everyone else said. I wish I had some more creative ideas but I'm happy to read that we are in the norm.

  • Sliced ham, crackers, cheese, fruit, PB&J, homemade tortilla pizza, peanut butter crackers, mac&cheese, grilled cheese, whatever else I can come up with.

I try to keep lunchtime relatively neat since she goes down for a nap right after. I don't like to do major toddler cleanup before nap.

L will not eat lettuce - she doesn't 'get' it.

  • L isn't a huge meat or sandwich eater, so her lunches usually involve beans, eggs, or soy. I make a big batch of black bean/quinoa burgers, zuchinni tots, egg fritata things in muffin cups, savory muffins, etc.

I don't know when she eats all the food I send to DC, but she also has yogurt, cheese sticks (full fat cheese), grapes, oranges, or berries, and small veggies (peas, corn, carrots, green beans, etc).

She likes all the big batch foods I make and it is an easy way to add in more veggies.

Gardenburgers, Mac & cheese with broccoli/peas, leftovers, Couscous or quinoa with chicken and veggies.

It's really hard to be creative for 3 meals a day, 7 days a week. Ha.

Yea it is! I just keep telling myself that I can eat the same thing over and over to a certain point, so maybe that will rub off on her!

  • We do a lot of sandwiches (PB&J, grilled cheese, etc), quesidillas and left overs.  I always give her fruit and usually cheese or yogurt too because I know she will eat those things.  She is also on a bagel kick right now, so I will sometimes give her part of a blueberry bagel.  She has become pickier and pickier lately, I am hoping it is just phase.  I feel like breakfast and lunch are kind of boring, but there are only so many things she will eat right now.  For dinner she only gets what we eat, which a lot of times she won't touch, so I want to make sure she is eating a decent amount the other meals.

  • We do tortilla rolls, pb sandwiches, pb tortilla, quesadilla, grilled cheese, leftovers, pretzels with string cheese and sliced fruit. I sometime make veggie muffins if I have the time

  • I usually do leftovers (I make P's lunch the night before since she goes to daycare), but I always add sides like fresh fruit, cheese, and steamed veggies. In a pinch, I keep frozen organic veggies in the freezer, and I'll make her whole wheat pasta with veggies (I just throw them in when the pasta is boiling) and a cheese sauce (a little butter, flour, milk, and shredded cheese). We also do grilled cheese, eggs with frozen veggies mixed in (I scramble and throw in the microwave with frozen veggies), chicken sausage (fresh, not the pre-cooked kind), or fruit/veggie puree (I make in advance and store in cubes in the freezer) with yogurt. Generally, my goal is just protein, whole grain, veggie, and dairy at every meal - fruit is a bonus!

  • Pretty much what everyone else said.  Dexter has had an explosion with food and is now eating a little more. He's really into sandwiches.
