Ovulated on my own just a few hours after trigger and before IUI?

Hi, Ladies. This is my first time posting here. I've been reading for months. Looking for a little advice.

I'm on my third cycle of clomid and about to do our second IUI. I was in for monitoring on Tuesday morning, and I had one follicle on my right side measuring 19mm. Nothing else very mature on that side and hardly any activity on the left. They called Tuesday afternoon and said to trigger Tuesday night between 7 and 10pm and then come DH come in Thursday at 7:30am for sample and I come in Thursday at 9:30am for the IUI. I did the trigger shot around 9:30pm last night. I'm on cycle day 20 now as things were progressing slowly for me.

About an hour after the trigger last night I had quick, sharp pains in my lower right abdomen (the side that had the 19mm follicle earlier in the day). I think I may have ovulated on my own before the trigger ever had a chance to take effect. But then I figure if I was that close surely that would have been evident in my bloodwork and they wouldn't have told me to trigger and do the IUI? I'm wondering if I should call my doctor's office to see what they say? Or am I just being crazy and over-analyzing every little thing? I just don't want to go in for an IUI if we've already missed the window.

You usually ovulate 36 hours after the trigger shot. Did you have blood work done before they told you to trigger? The bw gives the full picture. GL!

  • I had blood work done yesterday morning, and they called in the afternoon and said that everything looked great and to trigger last night. I realize ovulation with a trigger usually occurs 36 hours afterward, but my fear is that I ovulated on my own already without the trigger.

Did your doctors tell you to have intercourse at the time of the trigger? Mine did. I'm not sure when I ovulated for my recent IUI, but I do know my period came way too early for O to have happened 36 hours post-trigger. We still DTD, so the timing was okay, but I'm pretty sure the ship had sailed pre-IUI.

And no one has mentioned this yet, but I will. You might want to try the Trouble TTC board, as most people her have moved onto IVF. Folks there are still using Clomid and doing IUIs.

    Good luck!

  • Thanks for the thoughts, assurance and insight! Really appreciate it. We did BD last night. We weren't instructed to but did just because we felt like it, a nice change from the scheduled ones!

And thanks for the note on what board to use.
