Induction recipes!

Ok- so maybe that title is a bit misleading, but some of us are starting to think about what foods we might start adding in to our diets to ensure our LOs come in a timely fashion.
There are a lot of foods that theoretically aid with labor induction, so if you've got a recipe, share it here!

Disclaimer: none of these are approved by the FDA, the bump, or your doctor for jump starting labor. If you think you are in labor, call your doctor. No one here is your doctor.

Raw Brownie Bites
Labor inducing food: dates.

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups walnuts
pinch sea salt
13-14 large Medjool dates, pitted
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp vanilla extract (you could also use mint extract or cherry extract, or orange...)

Instructions
Place walnuts and salt in a food processor.
Process until finely ground.
Add remaining ingredients and process until all mixed and uniformly crumbly.
With the machine running, add a few drops of water at a time, just until the mass starts to stick together in a big ball. (Better to add too little that too much!)
Roll mixture into balls or press into a square pan and cut into squares.
Balls can then be rolled in dried coconut, chopped nuts, or cocoa powder if you wish.

Enjoy!!!

Re: Induction recipes!

  • To bad for the nuts. I have a shit ton of medjool and barhi dates here. I think they sell like 10 varieties at my farmers market.

  • Jumpstart your Labor Cookies.  Made a batch when I was trying to get things going with DS.  Not sure it worked, but they were certainly tasty.

Try subbing dry oats! May have to play with the exact amount to get the right consistency :)

Thanks for posting this recipe!  I want to start eating dates this week since I'll be at 36 wks, but since they recommend eating 6 a day I couldn't figure out how to eat them.  I really don't want to just be eating them raw all by themselves.

  • Back home there is a bakery that swears by their lemon drop cupcakes. I don't know why, but it is what everybody turns too if they are overdue. I found this recipe via Pinterest

Maybe it's the process of making cupcakes from scratch that induced labor... Lol :)

  • So I'm lazy and really don't want to type this one out... So here's a pic. If you can't read it, let me know. Sorry it's sideways- damn mobile bumping.

This one is called eggplant Parmesan alla Scalini. Apparently it's supposed to help. I haven't tried it but plan on making it tonight. Either that or something with a crap ton of Thai spices. The lunges and jumping jacks just aren't working...

  • This just sounds tasty! Labor Cake!

Well, we’ve heard of it all but chocolate cake to bring on labor?  Sounds yummy so why not?  This labor inducing recipe sprouted life somewhere on the internet.  Moms are always looking for different things to try and this recipe is a lot more appealing than a castor oil and O.J. shake.

How does it work?  Hard to say.  Chocolate contains small amounts of phenylethylamine.  Phenylethylamine may have an effect on endorphin and oxytocin production.  Oxytocin, if you didn’t know, is a hormone that is released during labor.  Chocolate also contains caffeine and other stimulants, which might stimulate labor as well.  This recipe tastes great and might be worth trying if you are past your due date.

    Labor Cake Recipe

    Ingredients:

Box of  Devil's Food Cake mix
    1 package chocolate instant pudding
    1 12-oz package chocolate chips
    1 cup sour cream

    Directions:

    Preheat oven to 350.

Prepare cake mix according to directions on box.  Stir in chocolate pudding, sour cream, and chocolate chips.

Grease two 9 inch round baking pans.  Pour mix in pans.

Bake in oven for about 45 minutes to an hour.  To be sure cake is done, insert tooth pick in center of cake.  It should come out clean when cake is ready

  • I have been eating dates plain or tossing them in oatmeal, but the best possible way to consume them is stuffed with cheese and wrapped in bacon. I'm partial to gorgonzola, but there are recipes online with goat cheese or bleu cheese as well.
  • This date fudge is pretty good:

I added a fair bit of honey and it's still not super sweet. Would probably be a little on the yucky side without it.

A coworker just told me fresh garlic and fresh pineapple?

I heard pineapple as well from my SIL who's a Doula. Hey, what will it hurt I say?!
