TTC after 35

Had a convo with my BFF today...

A longtime friend of mine has been trying for close to 8 years to get pregnant. She previously tried IVF to no avail. I knew that getting ready to start TTC, I would have to be respectful to her challenges and tread lightly with her. So I decided that I wanted to chat with her openly now (instead of later) about DH and I starting to try and to see how she felt about it and to get an idea about when she would want to possibly hear about any potential future BFP. She just advised me that she just underwent her 2nd round of IVF and is very hopeful for good results. She said that she wants to share in our joy, regardless of how easy or hard it may be. She said that she has a hard time hearing about others' success, particularly if they are not worthy of such awesomeness (i.e. druggies) but that, as we are very close, she would be overshadowed by happiness and excitement for us.

I was really glad I was able to talk to her about it now, instead of wondering later. Of course she started going on a tangent about the possibility that we could both be pregnant this summer at the same time and I tried to avoid that for fear of jinxing it.

Anyway, I just wanted to share our convo. I feel better now.

  • Yes, absolutely! And now I won't spend so much time racking my brain later on when or how to tell her. Definitely a relief!

  • I love when two friends can sit down and have serious discussions, and will be there for each other. The TTC journey us definitely a rocky road, it's good to have a support system

You sound like a really sweet person, @MamaBear904.

I have regrets about telling my friend about my LO's BFP back when we announced we were expecting. She experienced IF and told me about TCOYF when I told her that we were TTC back in the day, so she was a huge help because I knew nothing at the time. I didn't realize then that I should be gentle about announcing to a friend who had experienced challenges. She lives in a different country, so I told her through e-mail. I haven't heard from her since and it just makes me feel awful. I assume that I hurt her without that intention.
