Cloth Diapering

Wandering Balls

I made 5 wool dryer balls a few weeks ago, and they keep winding up stuck inside my clothes, sheets, etc and not getting used in the dryer that much. In fact, I'm down to 4 balls b/c I can't find one of them. Is this a normal problem? Should I (could I) add some wool to make them bigger?

  • I have six balls, and I average 3 in the dryer at any one time due to this very same problem. Bigger might help some, but I think you're still going to end up with them wandering away. Bigger isn't always better.

  • I bought my wool balls, they are each about the size of a hard ball.
I only put them in my CD loads of inserts, and I've never lost one yet.  It might be a different story with clothes. I just make sure I count them as they come out to make sure I get all 3 back, then they go into a special box on top of the dryer.

My dryer balls are about 3" in diameter.  I got them from this Etsy seller (https://www.etsy.com/shop/cleansypria). We haven't lost any.  When we wash sheets, they will sometimes get stuck in the fitted sheet.  I've ocassionaly had them in pants legs, but not often.  We use 6 total (four wool and two nubby plastic dryerballs) with each load.

  • We have three.  We always keep them in the dryer.  They usually get hung up in the laundry, but we just get them out before the next load.  DH can't stand clean laundry that's not put up, so our loads don't sit in a laundry basket very long.

  • @welly01 - Where did you have YH trained??? I need the number! I try to fold laundry when I get it out of the dryer, and I put it at the bottom of the stairs for DH to carry upstairs for me when he gets home. I kid you not, he walked past baskets for a whole week last week until I reminded him in my "if I have to ask one more time..." voice that they needed to go up. I think he honestly doesn't see them!!!

I think some men have a gene that makes laundry invisible. Its related to the gene that blocks unpleasant odors coming from spoiled food or soiled diapers.

Is the one extra ball awkward?  Or do you find it beneficial?

Seriously, I don't know.  He drives me CRAZY though.  He's such a clean freak.  He's definitely the cleaner of the two of us and I'm a little embarrassed to say he does more housework than I do. :(

Nope sorry, I need to repair one at the moment.

And usually I'm lazy and loose 2 of them in unfolded sheets.

And yes, I find I beneficial to have an extra ball or two handy...

I've totally made the bed and not noticed the lumpy balls caught under the sheets until I got in bed that night.

THIS! My husband is OCD and he is the cleaner of the house too.  He does his own laundry b/c I don't "do it the right way"... He'll also go behind me and re-arrange dishes in the dishwasher the "correct" way.  LOL
