Babies: 3 - 6 Months

HELP!!!

Well my 6 month old has been very congested and has a horrible cough. One of his many things hes caught from daycare :( but on top of this he has 2 teeth coming in. The past two nights he has been impossible to console in the middle of the night from about midnight to 3 am. I work and this has been so hard to see him so miserable and not to mention getting up the next morning. I've tried Orajel, Infant Tylenol, and rocking him and nothing has worked. Any suggestions?!? I've always heard teething horror stories and I feel like I'm now living them!

Re: HELP!!!

  • Don't use the Baby oragel, unless it's the naturals. There are nasty side effects to the reg. oragel (I just found this out today!) I like to put my LO's binky's in the fridge and rotate them so that they're cold for her. I use the oragel Naturals ONLY if needed. I FF so when I go to warm her bottle, I chil the nipple while the formula is warming. She seems to like this and **knocks on wood** sleeps pretty well. (6-8 hour stretches, **again knocks on wood**)

  • Yes it is baby orajel all natural I hardly use it just because it really doesn't seem to help anything. He has never really been a fussy baby until these past two nights, and it's only at night. He won't take a paci but I will try the nipple on the bottle trick.

    Thank you!
  • Also wet a washcloth and put it in the fridge for a bit, let LO chomp on that or use your finger in it to apply pressure where the teeth are coming in.
  • I take one of LO washcloths and put an ice cube in the middle and tie it closed with a rubber band. The cold seems to help.

  • We are using frozen washcloths... I dampen them, ring out the extra water and throw them (a little rumpled) into the freezer. They freeze quickly and stay cold for a while!

  • Check with your pedi about using motrin vs tylenol. I've heard from other moms that the motrin works better for teething pain.

We use hyland teething tablets sometimes during the day...if I can't get anything else to sooth him. But at night we will do a medicine. We all need the sleep.
