Dropping Progesterone Levels after FET

Hi Ladies!  This is my first time posting but I've always turned to forums for answers or comfort when my crazy kicks in! :)  I was hoping maybe someone out there had similar situations and wouldn't mind sharing their experiences, good or bad.  I've been TTC #1 for 4 1/2 years and recently got my very first BFP!  I did an IVF cycle and developed OHSS right after, so we froze everything and waited til my levels came down to transfer.

I had 2 frozen embies transferred on 2/9/14.  10 days later, I got a BFP!!!  I had an ultrasound and my RE said he could see one very early pregnancy.  Allelujah! My beta had doubled and I was off to a good start!  My RE retired shortly after (I loved him so much I stayed with him to the very end) and I started seeing my regular OBGYN.  At my first ultrasound with my OB, he said I was measuring 5 weeks, one week behind.  Since then, I see him every Monday for ultrasound and bloodwork and I have continued to measure 1 week behind, but so far, LO is growing 7 days growth in between appointments.  We have not seen a heartbeat yet.  The baby measured 6w1d last Monday and I'm hoping to see a heartbeat at tonight's appt.  My OB warned me that this could be a miscarriage.  My progesterone is also dropping every week, which I was warned could be a sign of a "bad pregnancy."  I hate that term!

Here are my betas and progesterone levels.  They never say anything about the betas not doubling in 48 hours, just that they're normal ranges for the weeks that I am.

2/19:  BFP!!  Beta 67
2/21: Beta 144
3/3:  Beta 2935, Prog 39.3
3/10: Beta 6100.61, Prog 24
3/17: Beta 9730, Prog 18.3

I take 3/4 mL of prog in olive oil IM and endometrin suppositories 2x a day.  Has anyone had their progesterone decrease while on supplements?  Does this always result in mc or has anyone gone on to deliver a healthy beautiful baby?

  • Try asking if PIO is a better option for you... I am sorry your going through this, but my Fx for you!

Started TTC in 2006, LOTS of trying, and trying, and 7 rounds of IVF with 13 embryos, 2 perfect little boys and 5 loses....
All finished with babies, started to make diet changes, Keto, to be MORE for my kids, lost 30 pounds, still going, and 3 months in, I had a natural cycle, and then ovulated... Hubs and I are going to see what happens now... Maybe a natural pregnancy? After everything we have been through? Or just a return to normal hormones? We shall see what the future holds!

  • My progesterone went all the way down to 10 and my RE upped my PIO and it was fine after that.

I'm a little confused, though...even though your primary RE retired, did the clinic release you to your OB that early??  You really should be monitored until 8-12 weeks (typical timeline I see with other IVF ladies, including myself).  I graduated my RE at 9 weeks...so it surprises me that you've been seeing your OB since 5 weeks.  I had an u/s with my RE every week after my positive betas from 5w through 9w to monitor growth and heartbeat.  Also, I forget the numbers and timing, but once you hit a certain point your betas don't double anymore, as long as they're in normal range you're fine.  Good luck, and FX that baby is still sticky!

  • Good luck to you and I hope everything turns out okay. I don't have any advice but my RE never checked my progesterone after my first beta. I was on PIO and he stopped it at 10 weeks so I have no idea if my levels stayed the same in the beginning or dropped.
I hope they heard that heartbeat- I'll be thinking of you!
