My daughter has REALLY sensitive skin. I have to use Dove unscented/sensitive bar soap to wash her and Cetaphil or Aquaphor. I know they make an Aveeno eczema formula. I wish I had better advice but if I used J&J her skin would dry out and have red bumpy rashes all over. Call your pediatrician, that's how got the advice for my LO.
My little guy is the same- j&j is a no go. Anything fragrance free seems ok. We use selsun blue senstive on his head per the pedi. Make sure not to get it in eyes! We use cortisone cream on the broken out spot also per pedi. We also use the aveeno baby but haven't had much luck with it.
Nora (3.5 months) has eczema really badly, mainly on her legs, hands, and her elbows.
I bathe her using Burt's Bees Nourishing Body Wash & Shampoo, I also add some baby oil to the bath water. When she gets out, I immediatey slather her with the Burt's Bees Moisturizer before she is even dry.
Twice a day, usually at diaper changes I also use the Aveeno Eczema formula lotion.
We've been doing this for 9 days now, and there is a huge improvement.
ETA: My doctor doesn't want her using any prescription or cortisone creams until it is absolutely necessary. She wants us to exhaust all other options first.
The Mustella products have been wonderful for my LO! They make a eczema prone skin face wash that has helped his baby acne SO MUCH! Plus the physiobebe cleanser has helped too!
LO has it bad on his face and I feel like I've tried everything. We've tried Emily's cream, Aquaphor, Aveno ecaema. Per pedi we use cortisone every other day on bad break outs, but I hate doing it and use it sparingly. Otherwise we do baths with Aveeno and slather on the Aquaphor. I feel so bad for him:( good luck!
lurking: we try to stay away from laundry soap and bar soap that has fragrance. We use the equate version of aveeno and we mix it with hydrocortisone and apply to child after every bath . You have to be consistent, though.
Mom of a child with eczema and wife to a husband with eczema
When he had it really bad as a 3 month old I put Aveeno Eczema Baby lotion on his face 2-3 times a day, and gave him a bath in water only (Aveeno Eczema Oatmeal soap for Babies for hair and bits & pieces) every day. This worked great to calm the breakouts.
Now I am able to bathe him every other day with warm water, soap him completely up once a week, and put lotion on his face, elbows and knees after a bath and his face stays pretty clear. His cheeks and eyebrows are still a bit red all the time, and would probably clear up if I applied the lotion more religiously.
Hi all. DD has had a number of random rashes and each time I call or go to pedi he says hydrocortisone cream. I don't want to use that and would like a more effective treatment if it is eczema. Art first I thought it was an allergy to the lotions because she would get it really bad in the creases of her elbows. I used the regular baby aveeno then switched to the deep moisturizing oatmeal aveeno soap and cream. I have changed to a "free and clear" detergent. But nothing seems to be healing this. This may sound silly to you, but does this look like eczema? It is mostly on elbows. Occasionally her knees/legs. This is probably the worst it has looked.
It looks like eczema to me, but I would take her to the Dr. or dermatologist if you haven't already. I know that certain things in my diet cause my son's eczema to flare up. Heat also can cause it to get more inflammed, as well as outdoor allergens.
@JGo517 That is what DS' eczema looks like. I bathe him daily and lube all over with aquaphor. This is usually at night before bed. In the morning I use Cera Ve lotion because it is less greasy. On raw or chapped looking spots I use prescription 2% hydrocortisone ointment. For baths I only soap one to two times a week and use Dove Sensitive bar soap and Aquaphor baby shampoo. Since starting this routine it has improved a lot.
Thank you so much!!! I'll try some if those things. You use the aquaphor ointment? DD Is not a fan if that because it makes everything (her clothes) stick to her. Haha. It always seems to clear up when I see doctor. But he's always told me to put hydrocortisone on everything. It helps but I didn't want to overdue it. She seems to be doing much better with the new aveeno lotion. But I should probably stop using the soap each time we bathe her. Thanks for your help!!! Glad your LOs eczema has improved.
Haha. Yea. I thought there was a cream too... Must have been making that up :-) She is a hot sleeper and wakes up sweaty ( no matter what we dress her in) so the ointment would probably make that worse :-( Thanks!!
We use auquafer soap or California baby in the tub, Eucerin lotion and best tip from dermatologist: no dryer sheets in laundry at all! Ok to use liquid fabric softener for sensitive and All free and clear. The dryer sheets was the miracle cure for our 4 yr old. Also I noticed in the summer when he swims it gets better. I think Chlorene helps.
