I'm currently 10 weeks pregnant, I am working full time and going to school full time. It is hard but I can manage now. However, in this summer( May to Aug), my schedule is going to be very hectic. I have to work 36 hours a week, do my internship for at least 24 hours a week (200 hrs total), and going to class for 10 hours. So basically, I am looking at a 80 hour work week including homeworks.
I dont' want to drop down to part-time because I will lose my insurance and maternity leave. and dropping out of school is out of the question.
Just wondering whether my OB dr. will write me a note to have six weeks off, this way, I can finish my 200 hrs internship and be back to work and just need to worry about roughly 40 hrs/ week. and how to ask him about it.
thanks for any input.
Re: will my dr. write me a note?
Second, I doubt your doctor would "get you out of work" unless it was medically necessary. This is work, not a middle school activity that your Mom can write you a note for.
I would guess that your doctor would tell you to cut back your schedule if necessary, but if you can't handle the hours, I would imagine the "non-necessary" activities such as school would be cut before work. If you are doing extra hours outside of bedrest, your employer is reasonable to expect that those should be spent at work, not school.
In short, no, I don't imagine that this will be possible. You can always ask, but i highly doubt it. I am sorry you are struggling right now.

It sounds like you're due in mid-October, so hopefully you will be finishing up with all of the extra commitments around the time you enter your third tri. FWIW, I also have a very hectic schedule at the moment (full time student, plus working 2 part-time jobs that total 35 hours per week give or take) and it is manageable for me so far at 29 weeks. Who knows how I'll feel in a few weeks, but for now it's alright!
I know how hard it is to manage everything, but just remember this is temporary and you will get through it. I've worked/gone to school full time with a newborn and I know how hard it is. It's worth the sacrifice, you just have to power through it.
