DH's father is named Michael, and we would love to name LO#2 (if a boy) Michael after him. The only problem, Michael is a name that evokes sad feelings in my family; my father's brother that passed as a child was named Michael, and my cousin that was stillborn at 40 weeks was named Michael. So do you ladies have any other ideas of names similar to Michael? I can only think of Micah, and I don't love it. I also don't love Michael's popularity.
FWIW: We aren't set on naming something similar to Michael, we have other names we like (Calvin, Linus, Everett), just looking for other options. If not as a fn, we'll likely use Michael as a mn.
Thank you!

Re: Honor Michael?
The only name that I can think if that sounds somewhat similar is Mitchell.
Edit- Reading comprehension fail. You said you could use it as a mn. Sorry.
another possible option-- what is your FIL's middle name? Would that be another way you could honor him is by naming your LO using his mn? My FIL's middle name is James, which is a name we love so we plan on using that in the future as a way to honor him.
