Intro and Question for Moms of Toddler + Twins

Hi everyone! I am 10 weeks pregnant with twins, and have a 21 month old daughter. It was a total shock when we found out we were having twins and I think it's finally sinking in. I just perused the boards to see what the discussions are about and I look forward to coming here for support and advice!

I have a question for those with an older toddler and newborn twins -- do you/did you use a triple stroller? I am trying to figure out if I need one. My daughter will be almost 2.5 when the twins arrive. Will I be going out with all three of them very much? I'm thinking places like the mall or errands by myself. We have the Britax B-Agile single stroller and love it, and our plan was to get the double stroller when we thought we were only having one. Now I don't know what to do. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

  • Hi and congrats!  If your DD likes to walk, I'd avoid getting a triple stroller.  I had one and HATED it.  I had the Joovy Big Caboose.  It was terrible to push, turn, and didn't fit in our car.  I find that a double stroller works great.  I just bring a sling or carrier for my smaller twin so my toddler can sit if he gets tired.

  • Just wanted to say hello! I'm also 10 weeks pregnant with twins and I have an almost 20 month old :) There are a bunch of twin moms and one triplet mom on the October BMB :) I've been keeping my eyes peeled for a City Mini Double on CL and also a Joovy Twin Roo. I actually just got the Joovy Caboose for $50 on CL for the rare times I might want a tandem vs. Side-by-side. Looking forward to getting to know you!

  • I'm 22 weeks with twins. Have a 3 1/2-year-old daughter. We got the Joovy Twin Roo. Later will get another double stroller. We plan on having DD walk... but if that doesn't work out, I've been looking into the glider boards. They might be a decent option. Also, we will be making extensive use of DD's harness when she's walking... she's a very very wiggly kid.

Ooh tell me more about this harness. Does she wear it? What kind is it? My daughter is very curious (the nice way my SIL describes how active my daughter is).

  • Hi! My twins are 8 weeks and my older daughter is 21 months. We bought the Valco Baby Zee Two. It's a double stroller with a detachable third seat. Google it! It's so easy to push and steer and my daughter loves her seat. I love that we can use it with all three kids and then just take off the third seat and have a standard side by side double stroller.

  • I have the Baby Jogger City Select double with the Englacha Junior X-Rider attachment. It wouldn't work for everyone, but my almost-three-year-old is still an excellent stroller rider and definitely needs a place to be buckled down sometimes, and that attachment fits the bill perfectly. I get comments on it wherever I go. It's awesome.

  • My options are:
1- Use our Double Snap and Go for the twins and either attach a glider board to the back for DS who will be 3 1/2 or put him in our Jeep Harness to let him walk with the stroller if we are going somewhere really crowded
2- Use our BOB Duallie and wear one of the babies, while the other stays in the infant carrier and DS rides in the stroller.
I am so nervous about going out with all 3, especially since DS looooves to run!!!!

  • Hi! I am 31 weeks with twins and DD is 21 months so in a similar situation. We go on lots of long walks (sometimes runs before I got prego) now, so I want something that holds all three but the options are pretty limited. We have Chicco car seats. My plan is to start with a double SNG and/or Chicco's double stroller. I like the idea of a double stroller bc I can at least wear a baby and have DD sit in one of the seats. We looked at the Joovy Big Caboose but there is no way DD can sit on the back area with two car seats snapped in. When the twins are old enough to sit in a stroller without car seat I plan to get a triple jogger so we can still get out and walk a lot. If we weren't into the long walks I'd prob be ok with a double and having DD walk or do a glider board. I wish there were better options for moms with three under two/three!!!

DD is also very... curious. Her harness has a stuffed monkey thing on it, which is quite cute but gave us a little trouble the first few times we used it, because she didn't want it on her back. She wanted to cuddle it instead. We took the leash part off of it (so she wouldn't get tangled up in it) and let her play with it for a couple days, and that got better.

She wasn't a huge fan the first couple times we tried it. She did a lot of pulling and fussing, but after she got used to it (and how far she could go before she ran out of room), she got much better. Having her hold hands when we started out also helped, so she only got pulled back when she bolted... she didn't feel like the harness was attacking her all the time because she felt like she was just walking with us much of the time then.

Before the harness, we tried the one that just went around her wrist, and she absolutely hated it. We had hoped it would be a nice option that would fit easily in the diaper bag, but she didn't agree.

So not the perfect solution, but it definitely helps, especially in crowded places. We're still working on trying to get her to stay by us without it on... or with it on but without it being pulled tight, but it gives some piece of mind that when she decides to just bolt, she can't just disappear on us. Since we'll have both our hands full with the twins, I definitely think it will be good.
