Weird question...

What does your babies breath smell like?

Is he/she breast fed or formula fed?

I have a VERY sensitive sense of smell and I notice that when LO doesn't eat as well, he gets a chemical smell to his breath, it smells like nail polish remover.

And yes, I'm aware that this is what they call the 'diabetes breath'

I'm curious to see if any of you have smelled this on your baby before.

I notice absolutely no odor from his breath. His spit up, however, is hella pungent.

My LO is bear fed and her breath is sweet and creamy!

Edit: breast fed, not bear fed. I'm sure her breath would be far worse if she were fed bears

No noticible smell to me.  I think the smell you mean is for DKA, where diabetes goes haywire, and has a fruity smell.

And op... Its just like a half digested milky smell. She's bf. I'm gonna have to dr google this diabetic something or another. Seeing as I need something else to freak out about

I believe so, I think dehydration causes this too...

@ycu2013 Is your baby breast or bottle fed?  I didn't see it in the original post. 

eta: I think the dehydration part is related to if the person is diabetic, because it could potentially make the sugar levels worse.  Not sure if it could send them into DKA, but possibly, or put them at higher risk in combination to other factors.

Never even heard about this and my DH is type 1 JD.
I haven't ever smelled that on LO's breath either...
I hope you figure it out! I'd ask my pedi though...it can't hurt to be sure.

Ftr I love the way my Los smells. It is almost like pancakes. He's bf.

My ds1 has hypoglycemia. When his blood sugar gets low (usually over night) he starts burning ketones and he gets super bad acetone breath, we alI smell it in him, we have to have him on a very strict food schedule. The doc told me he might grow out of it by age 6.

LO has a sour smell, similar to greek yogurt.  He has reflux and it has gotten better with meds, but hasn't disappeared.  When it is super strong, it is a safe bet he will spit up shortly.

This was my first thought as well. I remember learning about this in a nutrition class in college.

I never worried about this before, but LO's breath is awful. It smells like body odor, I think. DD1's was like that too. Both breast fed (sometimes bear fed, as in fed by, if I'm really tired). I think breast milk smells like body odor too. But now I'm gonna have to ask the doctor about this.

My son is BF and his breath has always smelled like buttered popcorn to me.
