Pregnant after IF

Intro - DOR & Surprise BFP!

Hoping I can join you all & wanted to say Hi!

I'm still in a state of disbelieve and surprise - I guess I had pretty much given up on thinking I'd ever be pregnant.  Early last week I realized I was late and feeling funny, so I took a HPT and got a BFP!

After having TTTC I was diagnosed with DOR about a year and a half ago.  MH & I decided to pursue adoption soon after trying a few failed IUI's and brought our beautiful DS home from the hospital just this last October.  We have an open adoption with his birthmom and only about 3 more weeks to go until the court date to finalize the adoption (DS's 5 months old).  So it is a HUGE surprise for this to be happening now, and to tell the truth I'm a little bit scared to think of having 2 kids under 2 in my house in the near future.  Scared and also very thankful that this may even be happening :)

I hope it's ok to join in here.  I feel somewhat like I've cheated IF by not going through the whole IVF process to get here, but at the same time it's been a very long and bumpy road.

And now for a question - How did you decide on who to go to for your prenatal care?  Did you consider only OB's or midwives too?

  • Congrats and welcome!!!!
I chose my OB practice (there are both OBs and midwives at my practice and I have seen both as they rotate you through everyone where I am at) based on insurance. I work for a health system so I had to stay in network to avoid huge copays. That said, it is a top hospital with great prenatal care so I wasn't worried about it! Good luck choosing!

    ****loss discussed*****

We're queer. I'm 33, have severe stage 4 endo, and had both fallopian tubes removed. My love ("Manada" on the boards, 32) was diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve. We did Partner IVF (my eggs, her uterus). We lost our twins Tavin and Casey at 21 weeks gestation.

    Our IUIs
with @Manada: IUI# 1-7 (December 2012- September 2013) all BFN. Tried natural, femara, clomid, puregon/follistim, clomid and menopur combo, both the ovidrel and HCG triggers.

    Our IVFs:
IVF #1 my eggs November/December 2013: Cancelled IVF due to poor response

    IVF #2 my eggs/Manada's uterus January/February 2014
BCPs and lupron overlap Stimmed: 1/22-2/2: Bravelle and Menopur (dosage ranged from B300 and M150 to B375 and M150 to B300 and M225)
2/4 retrieved 10 eggs. Endo was much worse than expected. Only 3 eggs fertilized; February 7 transferred two day 3 embryos, froze one. All great condition.
    BFP eve of 6dp3dt; Beta 1 (11dp3dt): 110; Beta 2 (13dp3dt): 175; Beta 3 (15dp3dt): 348; Beta 4 (19dp3dt): 2222; Beta 5 (21dp3dt): 4255
    1st ultrasound (3/6  6w 1d): TWINS!!!! Twin A measuring 6w1d with a heartbeat of 118bpm. Twin B measuring 6w0d with a heartbeat of 113bpm.

***July 18, 2014 we lost our beautiful babies at 21 weeks gestation. They were born too early. Tavin Sara T. and Casey Elizabeth T. are beautiful and precious and we will love them and miss them forever.***

    FET #1 December 2014
Intralipid infusion on Dec 10. Transfer of 1 day 3 nine-cell embryo into my uterus on Dec. 19. (acupuncture immediately before and after)
    BFP on Dec. 27; Beta 1 Jan 2 (14dp3dt): 665, Beta 2 Jan 4 (16dp3dt): 1859, Beta 3 Jan 6 (18dp3dt): 4449, Beta 4 Jan 10 (22dp3dt): 12,251.

  • congrats and welcome!!! what a beautiful surprise!
i chose an OB thats affiliated with a great hospital. being pregnant with twins i wanted to make sure that the best care was readily available. i think i still would've gone the OB route even if it was a singleton pregnancy. Good Luck!

    ALL WELCOME :)
  • Welcome and congrats! I am also DOR and had a surprise BFP...a week after they told me that IVF would be pretty much our only option!

I chose my OB based first on what hospital I wanted to deliver at....I see a group. There is one that I love and one that is so so. I see a tired OB in the group on Monday. I am a little OCD and I checked sheer all of the OBs went to school and did their residencies. I also know a few other people who went through this group, so that is good too.

I worked through a lot of emotions related to loss of experiencing pregnancy and having biological children when we were going through the adoption process.  I know I grieved for things I thought I'd never get to experience, like feeling a baby's kick or seeing a mix of me & MH in someone.  I'm somewhat hesitant to reopen myself to daydreaming about those things, so I am just enjoying where I'm at today.  It just seems too good to be true, so it's hard to believe that it will stay that way.

Funny enough, I think that I was MORE excited when we got the call about our match than I was when I saw the + on the HPT.  Maybe it was because we had been waiting and anticipating it for so long and this time it was a surprise?  I remember being so excited and already in love with the little person who might someday be our child, and I think that feeling is pretty much the same this time around.

  • Congrats and welcome, what a wonderful surprise!

I only see an OB.  I want the person I see to have gone through medical school.  That is just my comfort zone.

    Me: 42. DH: 46.

    1st Pregnancy: MC, 11/19/00.

    2nd Pregnancy: DS born 04/10/06.

Tried Letrozole January 2013-July 2013 (including 2 IUIs), all BFN.  After 2 1/2 years of trying for child #2, decided to "give up" after July cycle, based on AMA.

  • Congratulations! It's wonderful that your kiddos will be so close in age. I'm sure it's overwhelming to think about but it will be amazing...definitely a whirlwind....but amazing.

We went the OB route for both DD and this baby. The closest hospital doesn't allow midwives unfortunately. It's really about finding the best match, whichever route you go.
