Cloth Diapering

In between diapers?

Hi there. LO is finally outgrowing her NB diapers and I'm wondering what has worked best for everyone for the in between size before fitting into the OS diapers?

The fitteds still have some room to grow, but we need some more AIOs or AI2s. How are Best Bottoms during the newborn stage?

  • They fit my girls at about 8 lbs. They were still a little bulky but they worked. I used mainly prefolds with them, although do have some of the small inserts.

Also, if you use prefolds and covers, the Thirsties Duo wrap size 1 covers fit from 6 lbs and my girls are still wearing them at 13 lbs and still have room to grow.

  • We actually like the FB elites (old style) for that phase since we could make the leg holes as small as possible. Softbums also has an adjustable system (that I like better), and I feel like they continue to work well, whereas the FB quickly became some of my least favorite once G fit in other OS options.

  • Simplex 2.0 size M were the first AIOs that fit DS. OS were also pretty good early on.
  • Ditto Thirsties size 1 and prefolds

  • We had a whole bunch of old school (pointy tab) size small fuzzibunz last time. They were hand me downs, though, and mostly worn out now, so I'm not sure what we'll do.

  • Kawaii P&Ns and OS grovia AI2s fit best here during that time.

  • Charlie Bananas worked well for us. Like the ones LBW pointed out, they have adjustable leg elastics.

  • Ditto on the Kawaii P&Ns.  I went straight to OS though; she could fit in both.  OS may just be a bit bulky, depending on dipe.

What do you have now for OS and how  big is your baby?

DD was really little... so we used three different sizes.  preemie/nb and OS... but most babies should be able to go into OS... maybe you don't need to buy another stash?

EDIT:  Most of the OS diapers came with a smaller insert.  We used that until she had absorbancy issues with those and then moved to the bigger insert.

  • She's 7 weeks and just over 9 pounds. She's outgrown the Lil Joeys and the NB prefolds are getting pretty tight. I only have BG 4.0 and Kawaiis (no P&N though), neither of those fit yet, even with the small insert. I am using the Blueberry Mini Coveralls with a GMD Fitted and Imagine AIOs, but we need more AIOs since I only have 2 of those.

  • If your baby has skinny legs, I loved the BG 4.0s. Our best bottoms didn't fit in the legs until about 4 months or later.

RaR nb covers fit larger and bridged the gap for us as well.

    Edit
Sorry. I didn't read all the responses and didn't see you were looking for AIO suggestions. Ignore me! ;)

  • Can you tri-fold the prefolds and double them up?  You might have to wash a little more... but for the sake of about 2 weeks until she fits into the BGs it might be worth considering...She should be able to fit really soon.  DD started wearing the BG 4.0s with the small insert at 9 lbs, even though it was bulky, it worked... but it depends on your LO's shape too.

I bought some Lil Joeys this time, and they seem to run smaller than some of the other nb diapers.

  • I'm assuming you have GMD orange? Why not pick up a few yellows?

There's always the option of flats, which you can use to stuff pockets later.

For a daytime fitted I really like Kiwi Pies. They have been my favorite after DS outgrew the Kissaluvs size 0. He's tiny so we are still using them at 22 months.
