I know a woman named Emmy and it totally suits her. Not sure if it's a NN or her full name, but it's definitely what she goes be exclusively. I think it could be too cutesy on some women... but I don't think it necessarily is in general.

I do think it's too cutesy. But I love Emma, Emily, and Emmeline.

We loved Emmy but went with Emma as we thought Emmy was too youmg for an adult.

I love love love it. I deliver in 2 weeks and we're stuck between Emme and Aria. Emily, Emma etc are very popular around here, plus none of my kids go by a nn. So I'd want to just name her Emme. But I'm worried about how it'll be once she's an adult too.

I had an Emmy in a class but it was a NN for Emily. It's a great NN but I don't think it transfers so well to adulthood.

A bit cutesy for me, for an adult.  Great for kids, though.  My friend has a DD named Emma and they call her Emmy sometimes.

DD is Emmeline and we call her Emme. I think it's probably what she will go by most if the time, but a more formal option is nice. I think the Emme spelling looks less cutesy, and everyone I know still pronounces it Emmy rather than Em. I'm biased but think it could stand alone as a name.

Hi! I'm an Emily but went my Emmy for most of my life and still do to my family. It came about because my cousin who is my age couldn't say Emily so Emmy stuck. Then my niece and nephew call me Aunt Emmy. So to my family that's what I go by but in my professional life I go by Emily.

I guess it would depend on what field of work I went into. I work in a very male dominated field so id have a disadvantage. Even Emily is seen as very juvenile. I know it's a classic name but with rise of popularity of Emily/Emma in the 2000s it's seen that way. When putting independent work out there I actually go by E. Maidenname LN. I think the tides are changing though. I'm in my late 20s and in the 5 years I've been doing this I've seen a lot more acceptance. I actually like the spelling Emme the best if you were picking that as a name. To me it looks chic.

Give her a real name (Emily, Emma, whatever). Call her Emmy if you want, but yeah, not a grownup name.

My name is Emily, and personally even as a child I HATED people calling me Emmy. If my parents tried I would throw a fit and yell "THAT'S NOT MY NAME" to this day the ONLY person I let call me Emmy is my little brother. And personally I also feel that as you get older with the name, Emily sounds far more professional.

With that being said I went through years of school with a girl named Emily, and all she would go by is Emmie, even at our high school graduation she had the principal announce her name "Emmie"
It worked for us because both of our lasts names start with C so being younger the teachers couldn't call us Emily C and Emily (whatever). 

But I agree with PP, you should give her a real name like Emily or Emma or if you want to be yooneek, EmmaLeigh is a spelling I have always loved of the name and call her Emma or Emmie if you want.
