DS isn't really into TV. I know the babysitter has it on during the day, but at home he gets almost no time. He has a little game/show on the ipad that I let him have maybe 30 mins 2 - 3 times a week.

As long as it's appropriate, I'd allow 30 mins per day when he gets interested. I'm hoping he never likes tv, I feel like kids without have such vivid imaginations and are more interested in outdoor activities. If that's going to happen though, I need to stop watching tv... and that is really hard!

  • He recently fell in love with Bubble Guppies. Obsessed! During the week he goes to daycare and they don't have any TVs. When we get home he always asks for "guppy guppies". I let him watch a 25 min episode while I'm getting dinner ready. During dinner we listen to music. On the weekends he does watch a lot more. We cuddle in bed in he mornings and watch an episode or Sesame Street. He mostly uses the iPad on 1 hr car rides to our parents houses. Total it's probably like 2-3 hours each on the weekend days. More than I would prefer but it works right now.

  • Sorry to post and run without my response! Bedtime was a little hectic tonight (and still going on as DH has taken over trying to get DD to stay asleep in the crib; this RNP to crib transition isn't going well). Anyways... as you could probably guess, I'm worried DS is getting too much screen time. He doesn't get any at daycare, which is good, but it's on quite a bit at home. DH is someone who just always has the TV on and is uncomfortable with it off, so I have to be really mindful to tell him to turn it off. Outside of that, DS asks for the iPad to watch movies and/or watches them on the TV nearly every morning or evening. He also watches sports (mostly hockey) with DH on TV, too. Probably a combined 1.5-2 hours/day. The weekends can be a bit more depending on how things are going and how much time I have the two alone. He mostly watches Disney movies (he's totally into Frozen right now, but Monsters Inc/University, Finding Nemo and Despicable Me 1/2 are his faves). He's also occasionally watch an episode of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Bubble Guppies or Jake and the Neverland Pirates. When we're watching he's typically talkative and asking questions about what we're watching or telling me about it, so that seems better than totally zoned out, but I still am trying to decide what amount of screen time I'm most comfortable with. Looking forward to the responses.

  • DD watches 1 episode of Sofia the First either while I shower or while I make dinner whichever is more important to me that day. If we are driving somewhere and it's more than 30 min then I let her watch the little mermaid in the car.

  • I let her watch Mickey Mouse Clubhouse or Sesame Street while I'm cooking dinner. The amount of tv time varies each day, but I try I keep it under an hour.

  • Pretty much none. I'm not anti-screen time by any means, but our t.v. is in our not-child-proofed living room. DS1's toys and things are in the family room off of the kitchen, so he spends pretty much zero time in a room that has a television. When he does get the opportunity to watch something he only pays attention for a few minutes before going in search of his toys instead.

He is fascinated by the computer, though, so I'll pull up cute videos and things for him occasionally, but we're talking 5-10 minutes a week at most.

  • The boys watch more cartoons lately than I would like. But with my medical issues, I just need them to be quiet. Still, they watch Sesame Street, Dora, paw patrol, etc. Somewhat educational things. They do play with their nabis my grandma got them for Christmas a lot too but they like the educational and drawing apps more than the useless games so I don't mind that much. We also work with a few learning apps together on my iPad a little each day. So I guess they get quite a bit of screen time, but it's not all useless stupid cartoons or mindless games, so that makes it some better, right?!?

  • More than I would like, honestly, especially now that DS2 is here. He gets 30-45 minutes on weekday mornings while DH or I get ready and probably the same amount in the evenings while we're prepping dinner. When DH is traveling for work, it's more.

He loves Mickey Mouse's Clubhouse, Sesame Street (anything Elmo) and Tayo the Little Bus (an Asian cartoon we found on Hulu). He also really likes The Incredibles. Those are pretty much the only things he's ever watched.

  • I'd say no more than an hour a day on weekdays (cartoons in the morning), and a bit more on weekends. Sometimes they watch cartoons or short youtube clips on my ipad; sometime they watch on the TV. They each can play games for 15-20 minutes on the i-pad or their leappads if they ask.

  • DD usually gets about 25-45 mins a day. DH likes the tv on but we try to keep it muted and play music a lot and she isn't interested. She sure does love MM clubhouse, Doc and Dora though!
