Maximus' birth story

Maximus' Birth Story. Finally got around to typing it out.. haha.

At about 37 weeks I started getting random bumps I thought were hives from lotion or something. But within a couple of days they were from my shoulders to my feet and miserable. I had my normal Dr. appointment and my midwife figured out I had PUPPPS (google has a better description of how awful it is) which I think is best described as feeling like a mixture of chicken pox and poision ivy. The only way for the awfulness to go away is delivering the baby. (BTW it is only around 1 in 200 women their first pregnancy with a larger boy that seem to get it.) After I had tried every home remedy to try to get comfort I went back in to my midwife at about 38.5 weeks and she said to try to make it a couple more days. By 39 wks. 2 days she decided it would be best to induce because I wasn't getting sleep any longer and simple miserable. We went in on June 16th at about 12pm. They gave me the 1st dose of that they said would be 3 of cytotec. Within a half hr I was having contractions every minute. That continued for about 12 hrs and I only progressed to about 3 cm and stalled. They couldn't give me anymore cytotec or pitocin after that first dose because the contractions were coming to quickly. I ended up walking around the hospital for hours trying to get the cytotec to wear off. At about 6 am the 17th I was given pitocin to try to dilate more. By 9 am I was 4.5 cm dilated to and in awful pain so I opted for the epidural. They nurse came in at about 10 am and gave me the epidural. At about 10:30 am I started to feel super nauseous so they gave me something to stop that and Matt left to get breakfast in the cafeteria. By 10:40 am I told the nurse I thought I was going to pass out. I woke up a couple minutes later to 4 or so nurses running in the room and my main nurse screaming "urgent response" then all of a sudden it was over the hospital intercom. Then another 7-8 nurses and doctors rushed in the room. All I knew to do was scream "I'm awake! I want my husband!". Matt was there in a couple minutes and it turned out for some reason my blood pressure plummeted and the medicine she was giving me when I felt nauseous is what woke me back up. The bummer deal about passing out was they had to stop pitocin and all progression yet again stalled. They tried to get it going again without much success. Around 2 or 3 pm we decided to let the Dr. on call break my water even though they thought it would lead to a c-section. I started having consistent strong contractions right after that and they bumped the pitocin up a bunch gradually. Slowly throughout the night things started to get super strong and painful but around 1:30 am when the midwife checked Max still wasn't moving down (BTW at this point they still thought he was going to be around 6lbs.) so an awesome nurse that had taken over for the day nurse started helping me get in better positions and got him to move down in a few hrs. Around 7 am I was at a full 10 cm but running a 104 fever so we had to way for the tylenol to help a bit and get him to move a little further down. At about 9 am I started to push that lasted a little over 3 hrs. pretty sure just because I was so exhausted and he was kinda big but at 11:39 on June 18th Maximus was born weighing 9.2 lbs. and 21.5 inches.
